The present invention relates to a system and methods with an associated computer readable recording device and carrier for pre-assessment and training of candidates for the welder qualification process.
The system of the present invention may also be applied in personnel selection processes for any other function that requires a higher degree of attention and manual skill.
Antecedentes da Invenção Background of the Invention
Welding operations require compliance with stringent engineering and safety requirements. Improper welding when assembling certain structures and equipment can result in serious accidents with significant material damage and, in the most severe cases, incalculable damage to the environment and human loss.
Thus, for various applications, there are technical standards for specifying procedures that will be adopted in order to minimize risks and ensure weld quality. The same level of requirement is adopted in the qualification process of welding professionals.
Those skilled in the training technique of these professionals know that this qualification process is complex and requires a lot of practice time, dedication of experienced instructors, proper equipment and material consumption.
Moreover, due to the high degree of manual skill, concentration and reflex to the visual impulses, already required During the welder qualification process, it is necessary to pre-assess the fitness of a welder candidate to develop these skills.
To avoid unnecessary material loss and generally make the qualification process more efficient and less expensive, several technical solutions have been proposed over the last few years. Several efforts have been directed to recreate an environment in which welding conditions are simulated through audiovisual resources generated in response to user movements.
For example, US4931018 of 6/5/1990 describes a training simulation device, including a helmet, a welding gun, and motion sensors, which simulates a part to be welded to a screen, producing a visual response. to the user's movements.
Newer developments in this technology make use of advanced computer graphics capabilities to add realism to the simulated environment. Examples include ES2274736B1 of March 1, 2008, which describes a device comprising a welding gun, position and orientation sensors, which generates a virtual image on a virtual reality helmet.
In its turn, WO2010020867A2, of 25/02/2010, describes a similar device, highlighting the advantages of generating a more realistic virtual image and to the detriment of training of manual skills or "muscle memory".
Such technologies often have high cost and complexity, and do not provide the instructor with sufficient data for a preliminary assessment of welder candidate skills. Furthermore, the available devices do not allow to evaluate the evolution of the candidates in the development of these skills during the selection and training process.
Given the above, it is urgent to overcome the disadvantages pointed out in the state of the art.

In one embodiment, the sensors are numbered to allow instructors to perform variations of the aptitude test described above. Although the system of the present invention is designed for pre-assessment and training of candidates for the welder qualification process, the system may be used for selection and training in other functions requiring comparable levels of manual skill and concentration.
In one embodiment of the present invention, the system monitors the execution of the evaluation process and records, according to the movements performed by the test key 102B on the specimen 102A, the time between the actuation of the sensors and the state of setting or failure of actuation. In the context of the welder candidate selection and training process, this equates to the time between welds and weld status.
