Abstract

The present invention relates to a lid for a cup in which the lid is used for preparation of beverages in the cup, that the lid has a cover portion (1) with a shape corresponding to the shape of the opening of the cup, and that a lip part (5) is integrated with the cover portion (1) in order to achieve detachable connection with the opening of the cup. It is significant for the lid according to the present invention that the lid comprises a down-hanging, stationary, shape permanent receptacle (7) adapted to receive a product in loose weight for brewing beverages, that the receptacle (7) is equipped with perforations (12), that the lid comprises a member (15) which can be inserted into the receptacle (7) in order to close the perforations (12).

Description

LID FOR A CUP
Technical field of the invention
The present invention refers to a lid for a cup, preferably used for brewing tea sold loose weight and which is to be added to the lid. The lid can be used for other loose foodstuffs, such as coffee and powder for rosehip soup or bouillon. The lid and the cup are preferably for one time use only. The lid is suitable for so called take-away use, i.e. the user buys the drink in a cup, which has a lid in
accordance with the present invention and brings the cup with him/her .
Prior Art
From US 2006/0180028 a lid for a cup used to prepare a drink is previously known. This lid contains a bag filled with for example tealeaves, which can hang down into the cup during the brewing. The bag can also be pulled upwards to assume a position where the bag is no longer in the liquid contained in the cup.
From US 2006/0226147 a lid for a cup is previously known, in which the band of the teabag passes through a passage in the lid so that the teabag may be lowered into the liquid inside the cup. When the brewing is done, the teabag can be pulled out of the liquid and two wing-formed elements attached to the lid are turned so that the bag is kept between cooperating holding means of the wing-formed elements, said cooperating holding means supporting the teabag. Objects and features of the invention
A primary object of the present invention is to present a lid for a cup, which can be brought into an active brewing position and hot water is added to the lid. The lid can also be put into a non-active position where the brewing is interrupted.
A further object of the present invention is that the transition of the lid from an active to a non-active position takes place in an extremely user-friendly manner. Still a further object of the present invention is that the lids can be stacked on top of each other, thereby
minimizing the space required. Brief description of the drawings

Detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the
invention
Below brewing of tea by using the lid according to the present invention will be described. As is pointed out
earlier, the lid according to the present invention is by no means restricted to brewing of tea. Thus the lid may be used for preparing other beverages.
The lid according to the present invention includes a cover portion 1, which has a shape that corresponds to the opening of the cup (not shown) on which opening the lid is to be placed. The cover portion 1 is normally circular in top view. According to the disclosed embodiment the cover portion 1 has a sunk, centrally located portion 3. In an outer part of the cover portion 1 a first hole 4 is provided, from which hole 4 the user drinks the beverage received in the cup. The lid also comprises a lip part 5 integrated with the cover portion 1, said lip part 5 generally extending down from the cover portion 1. The lip part 5 is intended to cooperate with the upper open edge of a cup (not shown) , said lip part 5 may be brought in detachable engagement with the edge of the cup, said edge surrounding the opening of the cup.
The lid according to the present invention also includes a receptacle 7 for loose tea leaves, which is attached to the underside of the cover portion and defines an opening 9 in the lid into which tea leaves are replenished. Generally, the receptacle 7 has the shape of a stationary, shape permanent "finger" hanging down from the cover portion 1. According to the disclosed embodiment the receptacle 7 comprises a flat portion 10 and a portion 11 that is U-shaped in cross-section, the U-shaped portion 11 being attached to the flat portion 10. The flat portion 10 is perforated with second holes 12, which in substantial are evenly distributed over the flat portion 10. However an area of the flat portion 10 located closest to the free end of the receptacle 7 can be void of holes.
In the transition between the longitudinal edges of the flat portion 10 and the U-shaped portion 11 longitudinal ridges 13 are provided and extend parallel to the flat portion 10. There are two ridges 13 opposite each other and reach into the interior of the receptacle 7. Between the ridges 13 and the flat portion 10 guidings are defined. In the disclosed embodiment the flat portion 10 tapers in direction towards the free end of the receptacle 7. This is important partly in order to allow stacking of the lid according to the present invention, partly as regards the weight distribution of the lid when tea leaves are placed in the receptacle.
The lid according to the present invention also includes a laminar closing member 15, of which a number of views are shown in Figs. 4A-4D. As shown in Figs. 4A-4D this closing member 15 comprises a lower part 16 and an upper part 17, which are mutually connected via a folding notch 18. The lower part 16 is closed, i.e. it has no perforations. The upper part 17 is provided with an "ear" 19 located on the portion facing away from the folding notch 18. Fig. 4D shows how the upper part 17 can be folded relative to the lower part 16. Fig. 4A shows that the lower part 16 is tapering towards its free end and that the shape of the lower part 16 is adjusted to the tapered shape of the flat portion 10 of the receptacle 7. When brewing tea with the lid according to the present invention the desired amount of tea loose is put into the receptacle 7 through the opening 9. Hereafter hot water is added to the cup and the lid is placed on top of the cup, preferably a disposable cup. The tea will be brewed when the hot water comes into contact with the tea in the receptacle 7 via the second holes 12. When the brewing of the tea is to cease, the closing member 15 is used. In this connection reference is made to Figs.5A-5D.
Fig. 5A-5D shows schematically how the closing member 15 cooperates with the receptacle 7 of the lid according to the present invention. By studying Figs. 5A-5C it is realized that the lower part 16 of the closing member 15 is pushed into the guidings defined between the ridges 13 and the flat portion 10. When the lower part 16 is completely received in the receptacle 7, the second holes 12 are closed and the tea brewing is brought to an end. In this connection it should be emphasized that the lower part 16 is closed. When the lower part 16 is completely received in the receptacle 7, the upper part 17 of the closing member 15 can be folded into a
position, in which it covers the opening 9 of the receptacle 7. It is realized that the upper part 17 should have a shape corresponding to the shape of the opening 9. The user can now drink tea through the first hole 4 in the lid according to the present invention.
In the exemplifying description above tea sold in loose weight are used. Of course the lid may also be used with tea or powder in a package. It is quite possible to place a teabag in the receptacle 7, and hot water is added to the receptacle 7 through the opening 9.
The lid according to the present invention, the closing member also being a part of the lid, is preferably
manufactured in a suitable plastic material. The closing member may serve as a spoon for stirring with different added ingredients, e.g. milk, sugar etc.
It should also be mentioned that using the lid according to the present invention will generate less garbage than brewing with an ordinary teabag. Feasible modifications of the invention
In the embodiment described above of the receptacle 7, a flat portion 10 is perforated with holes 12. Within the scope of the invention, it is however possible to perforate another part of the receptacle, for example the U-shaped portion. If so, the closing member must be adjusted to the shape of the perforated part. If a portion having U-shaped cross section is perforated, the closing member must also have a U-shaped cross section .

Claims

Patent claims
1. Lid for a cup in which the lid is used for preparation of beverages in the cup, that the lid has a cover portion (1) with a shape corresponding to the shape of the opening of the cup, and that a lip part (5) is integrated with the cover portion (1) in order to achieve detachable connection with the opening of the cup, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the lid comprises a down-hanging, stationary, shape permanent
receptacle (7) adapted to receive a product in loose weight for brewing beverages, that the receptacle (7) is equipped with perforations (12), that the lid comprises a member (15) which can be inserted into the receptacle (7) in order to close the perforations (12), that this insertable member (15) has a shape which corresponds to the shape of the perforated part of the receptacle (7) and that guidings for the
insertable member (15) are provided adjacent to the part of the receptacle (7) which is equipped with perforations (12).
2. Lid according to claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that only a part of the receptacle (7) is perforated.
3. Lid according to claim 1, c h a r a c t er i z e d in that the receptacle (7) has a flat portion (10) which is equipped with perforations (12) and that the member for closing the perforations consists of a laminar element (15).
4. Lid according to claim 3, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the laminar element (15) has a folding notch (18).
5. Lid according to any one of the previous claims,
c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the receptacle (7) tapers towards its free end.
6. Lid according to claims 3 and 5, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the laminar element (15) tapers in the direction towards the free end of the lower part (16) .
