Description of Invention
The presentation device of the invention comprises a body (1) having a multi-touch screen (2) arranged at front side thereof. The screen (2) may have its "multi-touch screen" functionality by a frame (3) having an LCD screen to be adaptable to a computer (11) of the device externally, or the screen (2) can be directly adapted to the presentation device. The multi-touch screen (2) has a number of light emitting diodes (LED) arranged vertically and horizontally through the edge portions of the screen (2) and the precise coordinates of the contact by a touch on the screen can be identified via interrupting lights of the LEDs where the contact takes places. Any presentation material, including images, editable or non-editable text materials, portable documentation files, sound or video files may be modified, intervened, copied, pasted deleted etc. by touching the respective points/locations on the screen (2). A scanner (4) and a printer (18) are directly connected to the device, in particular to the front side of the multi-touch screen (2) so that the printed material can be instantly converted into a digital medium, and which may be further modified via the multi-touch screen (2).
A finger print reader (5) communicating with the computer (11) and run by a software to identify pre-defined finger prints is arranged on the device so that the device can be switched on by only authorized individuals.
A touch pad (6) having a transceiver (19) and wirelessly communicating with the device is provided. The touch pad (6) comprises a pad (7) on which text or free drawing patterns can be printed by a digital pen (8). Signal transfer between the device and the touch pad (6) is achieved by communication of the transceiver (19) of the touch pad (6) with the transceiver (12) of the presentation device. The touch pad (6) can also have a finger print reader (5). Wireless communication between the touch pad (6) and the device (as well as other peripheral devices with the presentation device as will be mentioned below) can be provided in all suitable frequency ranges of electromagnetic radiation, like radio or infrared etc.
The presentation device is provided with a voice receiver unit (9) which preferably wirelessly communicates with voice transmitters such as microphones (14) being remote from the presentation device within a certain distance. Such voice transmitters may be provided with audiences, lecturer and whomsoever so that the device can be commanded by voice signals via dedicated software run on the computer (11) of the device. Likewise, the touch pad (6) can have a headphone (22) wirelessly communicating with the touch pad (6) so that the device can be controlled by voice commands remotely, such as writing or drawing on the screen (2). The headphone (22) communicating preferably by Bluetooth technology is a distance-sensitive device not operable for example for voice signals received more than 30 cm from a voice source.
As an alternative to physically contacting the multi-touch screen (2) to the presentation device may comprise a signal transmitter (16) communicating with a remote reflector (15). Wireless signals transmitted by the transmitter (16) that may be placed in the vicinity of the presentation device are reflected by a reflector (15) or a number of reflectors (15) that may be provided to the finger tips of a user/lecturer. Signals from the reflectors (15) are reflected to the multi-touch screen (2) and provide interaction with the lights of the light emitting diodes (LED) of the screen (2). Reflected signals can interrupt the continuity of lights of the LEDs so that the location of the pointer can be determined. The intensity of the reflected signals can be increased to identify the precise location where the user intends to point on the screen either at the signal source (i.e. signal transmitter (16)) or at the reflector (15) or at the signal receiver (17). Alternatively, a signal receiver (16) adapted to the multi-touch screen (2) is provided to receive the signals reflected by the reflector (15) so that the reflected signals can be transferred to and viewed on the screen (2). The screen (2) of the invention can have a 3D functionality allowing audiences to view objects in 3 dimensional space via auxiliary instruments like 3D glasses etc.
The device of the invention may be provided with a number of peripheral units including a wireless mouse (13) for activating items shown on the screen (2), a camera (10) for recording or transmitting view and voices of the lecturer or audiences, a scanner (4) to convert printed materials to digital medium and a printer to convert digital material to printed medium. All these peripheral units may be integrated with the body (1) of the device to present a more compact device. The camera (10) may be used as a web cam transmitting the voice and display of the medium for webcasting to a remote terminal like a computer of a student who could not be able to attend to the class for a reason.
Data storage medium of the computer of the device includes a digital library having for instance books of courses of studies in digital media, the content of which may be enhanced with some audio-visual features. Such features may include sound effects like the sound of a waterfall when for instance students are provided information regarding Niagara waterfall. These features may be activated in a number of ways including contacting the visual object on the screen that may result the device to sound or play a video of the object for instance a waterfall. One click on an object may enlarge it to its original sizes, whereas double click may play a video of the object. Sounds of animals can be similarly accompanied with a text material for a biology class. Further, even objects in three dimensional space can be modeled, modified and subjected to various of physical motions by use of the multi-touch functionality of the screen (2). Information content of the digital library can be retrieved from a data storage unit of the computer of the device, alternatively the device can access through a network communication unit to a remote server to retrieve the content from a digital library.
A number of display windows can be viewed at a time on the multi-touch screen so that a user can use, for instance, a digital book at one portion of the multi-touch screen (2) and a word processor at another portion, in case the user needs to take notes regarding the material of the digital book presented. Any material can be copied or cut from the digital book and pasted to the word processor or vice versa. Digital book can be controlled by the voice receiver unit (9) for it to be activated or a command of voice can provide a particular page of the book to be displayed on the multi-touch screen (2).
A number of digital notebooks (20) communicating with the device can be provided. Audiences to whom these digital notebooks (20) can be provided may write or draw on the notebooks (20) so that the signals to be produced by the texts or drawings on the digital notebooks can be transmitted, via a transceiver of a notebook wirelessly, to a transceiver of the device, enabling the text or drawings be displayed on the screen (2). Similarly, any display material on the multi-touch screen (2) can be transmitted from the device to the digital notebooks (20).
The device of the invention may have a number of slots (21) allowing the insertion of socket terminals such as a USB, memory cards like SD cards etc so that any audio-visual material can be imported into the device to be displayed on the screen.
The device of the invention can be adapted to a projector (23) as seen in Figure 6.
