Abstract

Eight input (12.1, 14.1, 16.1 and 18.1) and output (12.2, 14.2, 16.2 and 18.2) ports allow the connector 10 to be connected in-line with eight communication links in the form of LAN cables 20. The connector 10 includes channels 22 to allow data and current transfer to take place between the input and output ports. At least one channel 24 per port is configured to be connected to an alarm system (not shown), which alarm system is triggered into emitting an alarm signal when a communication link on either side of the connector 10 is interrupted.
