Abstract

A method for performing power management in a variable bandwidth environment. The method comprises creating a mapping table for mapping preferred clips to their respective broadcast times and packet identifier (PID) numbers (S310); tuning a receiver to a channel broadcasting a preferred clip using a PID number assigned to the preferred clip (S315); determining whether a content of the preferred clip is received during a predefined broadcast time window (S320); downloading the entire content of the preferred clip if such content is received (S350); and switching the receiver to a standby mode if the content of the preferred clip is not received (S340).
