Abstract

An ice dispenser (300) having a new driving system using no solenoid is disclosed. The ice dispenser can reduce noise, and can achieve a reduction in manufacturing costs, a reduction in power consumption, and an enhancement in product reliability. A refrigerator equipped with the ice dispenser and a method for controlling the ice dispenser are also disclosed. The ice dispenser (300) includes a motor (321) arranged in a case (310) formed with an ice outlet (312), first and second shafts (331, 332) rotating in accordance with a driving operation of the motor, a rotation controller (322) connecting the first and second shafts to the motor, to selectively rotate the first shaft (331 ) or the second shaft (332) in accordance with a rotation direction of the motor (321 ), and an ice processor (350) arranged at the outlet (312), to selectively discharge ice cubes or crushed ice in accordance with the selective rotation of the first shaft or the second shaft.
