Abstract

The invention relates to the field of plant products, especially food such as fruit and vegetables and the analysis of substances thereof or the condition of said substances by measuring the physical properties of the substances with the aid of a method and a self-contained device which is suitable for general use. Said device is embodied as a measuring apparatus for assessing the quality of plant products, for which the degree of ripeness of plant products is used. The degree of ripeness can be determined by electrically measuring non-electrical quantities and can be displayed via adequate representing means. Additional functions in the measuring apparatus, such as voice recording, a barcode reader, information on offers, and a pocket calculator, facilitate shopping.
