Abstract

A game comprises a layout (1) having a plurality of locations (4), each associated with a particular number on which a bet can be placed, and a plurality of playing cards which, when at least some of them have been dealt, the total of the numbers on the dealt cards indicates whether or not a bet placed on a particular location (4) wins.

Description

AN ELECTRONIC CARD GAME
The present invention relates to a game and more particularly to such a
game played with playing cards and a layout.
The game of blackjack has been played in casinos throughout the world
for many years. An aim of the present invention is to provide a game
which uses some of the general rules of blackjack but with an entirely
new and inventive layout which completely transforms the game.
To this end there is provided according to the present invention a game
comprising a display having a plurality of locations, each associated with
a particular number on which a bet can be placed, and a plurality of
playing cards which, when at least some of them have been dealt, the total
of the numbers on the dealt cards indicates whether or not a bet placed on
a particular location wins.
The display may have a set comprising six locations, each respectively
associated with the numbers 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and a number in excess of The display may have a plurality of such sets of locations, each arranged
for a particular player.
Each location may comprise a shape, such as a circle with a particular
number located in it.
The display may comprise information shown on a computer screen, the playing cards being virtual and electronically generated.
The display may comprise a layout.
The layout may comprise a surface of a table.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of
example and with reference to the accompany drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a schematic view of part of a layout for playing the
game, and
Figure 2 shows a schematic view of part of another layout for
playing the game.
Referring to figure 1 of the drawings, mere is shown a part of a layout
generally indicated by numeral 1. The entire layout can be curved and
form the upper surface of a portion of a table or the like. A dealer will be situated in a region adjacent the inner curved part 2 of the layout and the
players in a region adjacent the outer curved part 3. The layout 1
comprises a plurality of sets of locations generally indicated by reference
numeral 4. Each of these sets 4 is associated with a particular player.
When playing the game, each player sits near a number 17. As can be
seen, there are seven sets 4 of numbers located in rows. This enables
seven players to play the game at the same time. The present invention is
not, however, limited to a layout having this number or sets but is
variable in accordance with the size of the layout. Each set comprises six
locations indicated by numbers 17, 18, 19, 29, 21 and B.
The object of the game is for the players to bet correctly on the total of
the dealer's hand. For the pupose of this particular embodiment of the
present invention those totals are the ones shown in each set 4. The letter
B means "bust" , that is any total above 21.
Prior to the dealer dealing any card to himself the players make their bets.
This is done by placing chips on one or more of the numbers 17 to 21 and
B. The dealer deals cards to himself until his hand reaches 17 or above. If
the dealers total reaches 16 he must deal himself a further card.
The cards 2 to 10 take their face values, the ace can take either 1 or 11
and the jack, queen and king take 10. If the dealer has dealt himself a hand totalling 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 and his next card is an ace it will
count as one, thereby making his hand total 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17.
The dealer follows the draw procedures of a dealer in a standard
blackjack game. When the dealer's hand reaches 17 or above he cannot
deal any more cards to himself. He will then take the losing bets, that is
those that have not been placed on the number which corresponds to the
total of his hand. He will also pay out on the bets that have been placed
on the number which does correspond to the total of his hand. The
amount that he pays out depends on the odds that are offered for the
game.
If the first card of a new hand to be dealt is dealt face up so that the value
of the card is shown, all the cards are taken out of the shoe and reshuffled,
including those in the discard holder. However, if the first card is dealt
face down but the second or susequent cards are dealt face up the hand
can be completed without the card having to be reshuffled as the bets will
have already been placed.
If the face of the cutting card appears when the hand is being dealt, the
dealer finishes the hand but if it is the start of a new hand the cards are
reshuffled. Figure 2 shows a layout which is, in principle, similar to that shown in figure 1. In this embodiment each set 4 is arranged in a block and the letter B has been replaced by the word BUST. The method of playing the game is the same or similar to that when using the embodiment shown in figure 1.
Instead of playing the game at a layout in the form of the surface of a table, it can be played at a computer. In this case the display may comprise information shown on a computer screen. The locations may appear on the screen and bets may be made by the player touching appropiate regions on the screen.
