Description

BACK SOUND REDUCTION TYPE HEADPHONE
Technical Field
The present invention relates to back sound reduction type headphones, and more particularly, to back sound reduction type headphones which can reduce back sound to improve sound quality.
Background Art
In general, conventional headphones have a case encompassing the entire portion of an ear. Since an inner reverberation space surrounding the ear is closed, a sound wave generated by a speaker unit spreads in the reverberation space and reverberates therein. The reverberation sound is reflected in all directions around the ear of a user and heard as such.
Accordingly, the sound heard by the user through the headphones is different from that heard through a conventional speaker in a large space so that the user experiences a reverberation phenomenon peculiar to the headphones.
In particular, the ear of a human has been evolved to direct the front side for hunting and is very sensitive to the sound generated from the front side and capable of accurately hearing the front side sound. In contrast, the ear cannot accurately hear sound generated from the rear side. Also, since the human becomes unstable with respect to the psychologically inaccurate back sound, the reverberation phenomenon simultaneously representing the front and back sounds of the headphones prevents a sound image from forming in the front side and simultaneously makes one who hears the sound for a long time tired due to unclearness of the sound. The reverberation phenomenon making sound generated from nowhere lies in back reflection sound or back sound heard from the back side of the ear according to the structure of the ear of a human.
However, the conventional headphones simultaneously generate front and back sounds due to the case encompassing the entire ear. In particular, the back sound prevents a sound image of the front sound and formation thereof and simultaneously reverberation sound very unpleasant to ears are generated, which makes a hearer tired.
Thus, such a property of the headphones deters spread of headphones and dwindles a headphones market.
Disclosure of Invention
To solve the above and/or other problems, the present invention provides back sound reduction type headphones which reduce the reverberation phenomenon peculiar to the headphones to provide a feeling of not wearing the headphones and a comfortable listening environment, and reduce a back sound to move the center of a sound image forward to make formation of a sound field clearer, thus enabling enlargement of the headphones market. Also, the present invention provides back sound reduction type headphones which selectively control exhaust of a back sound and a degree thereof so that a user can enjoy various types of sound qualities according to the listening environment or one's taste.
According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided back sound reduction type headphones comprising a speaker unit, a case encompassing the speaker unit, and a back sound reduction unit to exhaust or absorb a back sound such as a back sound reflection sound or a back reverberation sound generated from a back side of a ear of a user.
The case comprises a front side hemispheric case having a reverberation space formed in a front side with respect to the user's ear so that a front sound is transmitted to the user's ear, and the back sound reduction unit comprises a back side hemispheric case in which a back sound exhaust opening to exhaust the back sound to a back side of the user's ear so that the back sound is not transmitted to the user's ear is formed.
The back sound reduction type headphones further comprises an opening/shutting unit for the back sound exhaust opening which selectively opens or shuts the back sound exhaust opening of the back side hemispheric case, wherein the opening/shutting unit for the back sound exhaust opening is a cover type plug corresponding to the back sound exhaust opening or an adjustable plug capable of adjusting a degree of opening of the back sound exhaust opening. As the back sound reduction unit, the case has a front side hemisphere only by removing a back side hemisphere with respect to the user's ear so that the back side is completely open so as to completely exhaust the back sound, or a sound absorbing member is attached to an inner surface of the back sound hemispheric case with respect to the user's ear to absorb the back sound.

FIGS. 2 through 4 are side views illustrating examples of a back sound exhaust opening according to the present invention;
FIGS. 5 through 7 are side view illustrating examples of an opening/shutting unit for a back sound exhaust opening according to the present invention;
FIG. 8 is a side view illustrating back sound reduction type headphones according to another embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 9 is a cross sectional view illustrating back sound reduction type headphones according to yet another embodiment of the present invention; and FIG. 10 is a cross sectional view illustrating back sound reduction type headphones according to still yet another embodiment of the present invention.
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, back sound reduction type headphones according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a multi-channel speaker unit 10, a case 20 encompassing the multi-channel speaker unit 10, and a back sound reduction unit which exhausts to the outside or absorbs a back sound such as a back reflection sound or a back reverberation sound generated from the back side of an ear of a user. The case 20 includes a front side hemispheric case 21 having a reverberation space formed in the front side with respect to the user's ear so that a front sound can be transmitted to the user's ear. The back sound reduction unit includes a back side hemispheric case 22 where a back sound exhaust opening 23 to exhaust the back sound to the back side of the user's ear so that the back sound is not transmitted to the user's ear is formed. As shown in FIG. 2, the multi-channel speaker unit 10 comprising a front speaker unit, a center speaker unit, and a rear speaker unit can be installed inside the front side hemispheric case 21. The back sound exhaust opening 23 of the back side hemispheric case 22 may have various types such as a complete opening type formed in a semicircular form, a horizontal slit 231 as shown in FIG. 2, a curved slit 232 as shown in FIG. 3, or a net type slit 233 as shown in FIG. 4.
By selecting the type or shape of the slit and a material of the slit (metal, synthetic resin, an elastic member, or ceramic), a degree of exhaust of the back sound generated from the back side of the user's ear and a frequency of the back sound being exhausted are controls so that an optimal design for the best sound quality is possible.
Thus, as shown in FIG. 9, a sound wave generated by the speaker unit 10 is reflected or guide by the front side hemispheric case 21 and arrives at the user's ear. A sound wave generated by the speaker unit 10 and arrives at the back side hemispheric case 22 is exhausted through the back sound exhaust opening 23 so as not to affect the user's ear. Thus, the user can feel a better sense of sound stage and more actual sound image and simultaneously enjoy comfortable and pleasant sound without unpleasant reverberation of sound. As an opening/shutting unit for the back sound exhaust unit which can selectively open or shut the back sound exhaust opening 23 of the back side hemispheric case 22, as shown in FIG. 5, a cover type plug 24 corresponding to the back sound exhaust opening 23 may be installed.
Thus, for better comfortable sound listening, the user can separate the cover type plug 24 from the back side hemispheric case 22 to open the same, so that the back sound can be exhausted through the back sound exhaust opening 23. in a quite place, to prevent dissipation of noise, the cover type plug 24 is coupled to the back side hemispheric case to close the back sound exhaust opening 23 so that the back sound is prevented from being exhausted. In addition, as shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, adjustable plugs 25 and 26 which can adjust a degree of opening of the back sound exhaust opening 23 can be employed. The adjustable plug 25 of FIG. 6 is hinged at a center portion of the front side hemispheric case 21 to rotate so as to partially cover the back sound exhaust opening 23. The adjustable plug 26 of FIG. 7 is hinged at opposite sides of the front side hemispheric case 21 to open outward so as to partially cover the back sound exhaust opening 23. Thus, the user can determine whether to exhaust the back sound or adjust a degree of exhaust of the back sound according to the taste of the user or a surrounding environment.
As shown in FIG. 8, as the back sound reduction unit, it is possible to make the case 20 to have a front side hemisphere only while removing a back side hemisphere with respect to the user's ear so that the back side is completely open so as to completely exhaust the back sound. Such back side completely open type headphones may provide better and clear sound quality since the back sound is completely and smoothly exhausted and simultaneously improve value of a product in view of design.
Also, as shown in FIG. 10, in a back sound reduction type headphones according to the present invention, a sound absorbing member 30 may be attached to an inner surface of the back side hemispheric case 22 with respect to the user's ear to absorb and reduce the back sound, other than exhausting the back sound. Thus, a sound wave generated by the speak unit is reflected or guide by the front side hemispheric case 21 to arrive at the user's ear while a sound wave generated by the speaker unit 10 and arrives at the back side hemispheric case 22 is not reflected but absorbed by the sound absorbing member 30 so as not to affect the user's ear.
While this invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to preferred embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
For example, although 6 channel headphones having 3 speaker units installed at each of left and right sides are described in the above-described embodiment, the present invention can be applied to various types of multi-channel headphones and the shapes of the back sound exhaust unit may be presented in various ways.
Industrial Applicability
