Description

ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE THERAPY TREATMENT METHOD AND APPARATUS
The subject of the invention is an electrotherapy treatment method and an apparatus for electrotherapy and electrostimulation that are more and more widely used therapeutic and prophylactic measures applied with excellent results in treatment of many diseases.
Known from medical practice methods of electrotherapy and electrostimulation treatments consist in leading to the body of a patient an electric current, of appropriate chosen frequency and shape of applied signals, from a therapeutic generator with the use of electrodes connected to the body of the patient. Because of a possibility to appear an allergy or eczema, that may take place especially on the skin-electrode contact, for instance due to electrolytic activity of the sweat, the electrotherapy and electrostimulation may have limited range of application. The method is accomplished with the use of an apparatus that contains a therapeutic generator supplied with electrodes.
Magnetotherapy and magnetostimulation are noninvasive methods and they do not require the use of electrodes. Therapeutic treatment with the use of known methods is based upon the exposure of selected parts of an organism to the magnetic field with the use of a coil (solenoid) fed from the therapeutic generator while the dimensions of the coil are selected in accordance to the requirements of the therapy. Larger diameter coils are used while the trunk treatment, smaller for the limbs' therapy, the smallest to a local treatment of selected parts of the organism. To the method application an apparatus is used that consists of a therapeutic generator supplied with a coil.
An apparatus for the therapy, known from the use, is a therapeutic generator that makes it possible to choose a frequency of the therapeutic signal, its shape, the amplitude, operation time and temporal alternations of the parameters mentioned. The generator is supplied with contact electrodes while electrotherapy or electrostimulation is performed and with a coil in the case of magnetotherapy or magnetostimulation. In both cases the point of the matter of the therapy is in current induction in the body of the patient. The current is a result of the potential's difference between the electrodes in the case of electrotherapy and electrostimulation or it is Eddy current induced by the coil in the case of magnetotherapy and magnetostimulation. Magnitudes of the currents and voltages are chosen lest to exceed magnitudes considered as hazardous for the human's organism. For instance, contrary to the diathermy, the patient does not feel heat, usually the patient does not feel any stimuli that could be detected in organoleptic way.
The merit of the invented treatment method consists in the generation of a carrier wave then it is modulated with a therapeutic signal and delivered, in the form of amplitude modulated electromagnetic wave, to an organism of at least one patient. The envelope of the wave is detected on semiconducting cell membranes. This way the therapeutic signal is recovered inside the patient's organism; it is advantageous if the carrier wave frequency is within frequency range 1 to 2 GHz.
The principle of the invented device lies in the transmission of the therapeutic signal through an amplitude modulation of a carrier wave generated in a carrier wave generator. The output of the generator is loaded by an output circuit. It is advantageous that the latter is unshielded and as a result can play a role of the radiator. Both the generators, that of the therapeutic signal and the carrier wave generator, may be controlled by a processor.
It is convenient that the operating wavelength of the carrier wave generator is chosen around 20 cm. In the new method the output voltage from a therapeutic generator is used for amplitude modulation of appropriate chosen carrier wave. Due to the presence of AM modulated signal detection, especially on semiconducting cell membranes, primary shape of the modulating signal (envelope) is recovered in the patient's organism and plays its therapeutic role fully equivalent as regards as to the therapeutic factors apphed in traditional electro- and magnetotherapy and electro- and magnetostimulation where the signal was delivered to the organism directly from the therapeutic generator through electrodes or a coil.
The new device contains of a typical therapeutic generator connected to a carrier wave generator. Both are placed in common casing in part made of a dielectric material. As a result unshielded output circuit of the carrier wave generator is able to radiate such amount of electromagnetic energy to assure to perform effective patient treatments within frames of a physiotherapy room and creates in essence a method of teleelectrotherapy.
The present invention has numerous advantages not existing in former electro- and mahnetotherapy and in electro- and magneto stimulation procedures. First, the method eliininates any direct contact of a patient with the therapeutic apparatus and electrodes. It allows to eliininate unwanted psychical, physiological and physical effects in the patient as well as allows simultaneous patient treatment together with other forms of therapy, for instance physiotherapy, simultaneous providing the therapy for a group of patients and as a result remarkable simplification and much cheaper treatment while identical effectiveness of the therapy is assured.
The essence of the invention is presented in an example of realization in figures where Fig.1 presents a block diagram of the device for the therapy treatment and i Fig. 2 is shown a block diagram of the same device equipped with a processor. Example 1. one person (a group of patients) and the frequency of the AM modulated electromagnetic wave is 1400 MHz.
Example s.
The apparatus for the therapy includes a therapeutic generator 1 connected to the carrier wave generator 2 that operates at the wavelength 20 cm and is equipped with an unshielded output circuit 3. The output circuit 3 plays a role of a radiator 3.
Example 4.
Apparatus for the therapy accomplished as in example 3 with an exception that the therapeutic generator 1 and the carrier wave generator are processor controlled.
The apparatus for the teleelectrotherapy works as follows: In the therapeutic generator 1 is generated signal of required shape and within a frequency range. Then the carrier wave generator 2 is modulated m amplitu.de with the signal. The carrier wave generator operates at frequency around 1.5 GHz with power not exceeding 0.5 W. The output circuit 3 of the carrier wave generator 2 is made in the form of a quarterwave length segment of a transmission line. Both the generators 1 and 2 are lodged in a common casing where the output circuit 3 of the generator 2 is placed in unshielded part of the casing. As a result of it its radiation efficiency is enough and an application of other types of radiators, for instance antennas, is not necessary. The apparatus is supplied with a processor 4 that enables selection and control of parameters of therapeutic generator 1 as well as carrier wave generator 2 in accordance with recommendations of a therapist and requirements of the treatment. one person (a group of patients) and the frequency of the AM modulated electromagnetic wave is 1400 MHz. Example 3.
Then the carrier wave generator 2 is modulated in amphtude with the signal.
