Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing uniform, porous cellulose beads with a particle diameter ranging up to 5000 νm. According to said method, a cellulose solution is converted into droplets by means of a capillary, said droplets passing through a gap under the influence of gravity into a liquid medium, where they take on a spherical shape. The liquid medium used can be a single or multi-component organic and/or inorganic system, such as for example hydrous N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide. The cellulose beads that are obtained can be used as a starting material for further chemical modification, as an absorbing agent in biotechnology, as a support material for biocatalysts, cell cultures or nutrient solutions, as ion exchangers or catalysts, such as automotive catalytic converters, or as feedstock in chemical reactors.
