Description

GREETING CARD
This invention relates to greeting cards
BACKGROUND QFTHE INVENTION
Many forms of greeting cards are known. They are available for all conceivable occasions from birth to death, for anniversaries, retirement, birthdays, weddings, and so on. They come in all shapes and sizes. Some are serious and some are comic. The majority have a picture on the front and a message either on the back or inside a folded card. The one thing that they all have in common is that the message of greeting conveyed by the card clearly comes from the sender of the card.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This invention provides a new form of greeting card, which fills a presently unfilled niche in the market and which purports to come from a person other than the sender.
According to the invention, a greeting card carries on one surface, usually the front or an outside surface, a representation of a personality or group of personalities and on another surface carries a greeting purporting to come to the recipient of the card from the personality or personalities and the signature or signatures of the personality or personalities.
Preferably, the card also carries a fact or facts about the personality or one or more of the personalities or the career activity of the personality, for example, about the sport in which a sporting personality is involved. A fact or facts may be in the form of a statement or statements and/or in the form of a question or questions. These will purport to be given and/or asked by the personality or one or more of the personalities and will normally be trivial facts or trivia questions but may include, for example, facts relating to history, anecdotes, comments or statistics. Where a question is asked the answer may be given either at a different location on the card or in concealed but revealable 'form. For example, answers may be written in invisible ink or be covered by a tear-off, peel-off or scratch-off strip.
The personalities featured are persons to whom particular groups relate, for example sporting stars, film or stage actors, pop stars or pop groups, etc.
The representation of the personality or personalities may be in the form of a photograph or a painting or drawing, for example, a portrait, a caricature or a cartoon.
The card may also carry a representation of the personality or one or more of the personalities in action. For example, a soccer player may be shown scoring a goal or a fisherman may be shown landing a big fish.
The message may be in written or, more preferably, in vocal form. The card may, for example, incorporate a conventional small transmitter that is activated by means of a pressure switch to deliver a spoken message when the card is opened or by a sound activated switch that is activated when the person opening the card speaks.
The card is preferably shaped to represent, in two-dimensional form, an article associated with the personality or personalities depicted on the card. For example, for a card purporting to come from a rugby football player, the card may be in the shape of a rugby ball, one purporting to come from a pop star or group may be in the shape of a guitar, and one purporting to come from a classical pianist may be in the shape of a grand piano.
The cards are collectable articles and, if desired, the cards may be arranged in numbered series.
DESCRIPTION OF PREFERED EMBODIMENTS
The invention will now be described in greater detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. I is a front view of one form of card according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a view of the inside of the card of Fig. 1 ;
Fig. 3 is a view of the rear of the card of Fig. I; and
Figs. 4 to 6 are similar views of a second form of card according to the invention.
As shown in Figs. I to 3, the first form of card purports to be sent by the Australian rugby football team. It comprises a rectangular piece of stiff card cut to the shape of two adjoined ovals and folded in half to represent a rugby ball.
On its front surface I the card is printed with a picture 2 of the team. On its inside, on the rear 3 of front surface 1 is a picture 4 of the team in action and a fact or facts and/or a question or questions 5 about the team or a member or members of the team. The answers to any question or questions 5 may also be printed on surface 2 and concealed by a rub-off strip 6. On the facing surface 7 is a message 8 appropriate to the occasion, for example, "THE WALLABIES WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY", and the signatures 9 of the team. The rear surface 10 carries the name of the producer of the card and, optionally, wording, such as" Card No. X in a series of Y sport personality cards".
The second form of card, as shown in Figs. 4 to 6, purports to be sent by a film star. On front surface II it carries a photograph 12 of the star. On surface 13 it carries a still 14 from one of the star's films and a fact or facts or a question or questions 15 about the star together with the answer to any question concealed by a peel-off strip 16. Surface 17 carries a greeting 18 from the star and an autograph 19. The rear surface 20 may carry wording indicating the position of the card in a numbered series of "film star" cards.
