Abstract

The invention relates to a system for representing the paint layer thickness distribution of a paint layer on the surface of an object, whereby a data processing device is provided that contains at least one data memory, in which simulated or measured data are stored that represent layer thicknesses at defined locations on the surface of the object. A display device is assigned to the data processing device. Several views (14, 22, 28, 36) of the paint layer can be represented side-by-side on the display surface (5) of the display device. The views comprise at least one top view (14) and two sectional images (22, 28). In addition, a defined location on the surface can be selected each time with a top view by using the mouse pointer of a computer mouse or of a similar pointing device of the data processing device. The data processing device is configured for displaying a first sectional image (22) based on the x-direction (16) established each time by the selection of the defined location (20) and for displaying a second sectional image (28) of the paint layer based on the y-direction (18) established each time by the selection of the defined location (20).
