Abstract

A low spurious frequency offset homodyne receiver that includes an SSB modulator (22) that shifts the frequency of the input signal and whose output is input into an IRM. An oscillator drives the LO port of the SSB (4). The use of an Image Reject mixer (24) in the last conversion stage of the apparatus further reduces the spurious signals found in the output of the homodyne receiver. The combination of passing the input signal first through an SSB (22) and then IRM (24), with the amplifier limited sample (2) of the input signal feeding the LO of the IRM (24), significantly reduces the spurious harmonics found in the output of the homodyne receiver, thus increasing the accuracy of the measurement of the amplitude and phase of the input signal we desire to measure.
