The dimensions and the weight of the inventive mobile telecommunications unit should not be significantly different from those of the mobile telephones currently on the market. The inventive mobile telecommunications unit should be easy to use and software menu-controlled. To this end, the keypad of a mobile telecommunications unit with a telephone unit is located above the display on the front of the device. This novel arrangement allows the keyboard to be operated with the thumb while the device is positioned securely in the user's hand and the display can still be read clearly. The menu software can also be configured in such a way that the device is operated with at least one additional input device. These additional input devices are located on the back of the mobile telecommunications unit and can be operated there with the index finger, with the hand in an uncramped position. According to the invention, said additional input devices are a trackball, a wheel, a rotating disk, a roller, a co-ordinate slide, a 3D track pad and/or a joystick.

Description

Mobile Telekommunikationseinheit mit verbessertem BedienungskomfortMobile telecommunication unit with improved ease of use
The invention relates to a mobile telecommunications unit with improved ease of use.
Modern communication devices, such as mobile phones, have to be able to handle additional functions and applications to an increasing extent. The size and weight of the device as a quality feature of mobility and portability often contrast with ease of use, manageability and data access. For example, WO 97/09813 describes a communication device which has a large number of buttons and a large-format display. As a result, the size of the device increases compared to conventional mobile phones, which leads to a reduction in mobility. Furthermore, the susceptibility of the device to interference increases. The dirt, dust, moisture and pressure sensitivity of the large number of buttons and large-format LCD displays are well known. LCD displays are also very sensitive to temperature fluctuations. WO 94/11980 also describes a mobile communication device which additionally permits input by means of a light pen and graphic panel. Light pens and graphic tablets are also not always suitable as input devices for mobile phones because of their susceptibility to interference and sensitivity to dirt, pressure and temperature fluctuations. DE 195 47 809 AI describes a mobile radio device with an integrated fax machine. As an additional input device next to the keyboard, a scan line is arranged on one side of the housing. The scan line is subject to environmental influences in the form of dirt, dust and moisture during transport and use, which can impair its functionality. The function is selected using the usual keyboard, so that operating the various functions makes handling the device more difficult. Other known, relatively simple mobile phones without additional input devices, Extended keyboards or enlarged displays are characterized in that the keyboard is arranged below the mostly one-line display. The usability, in particular with one hand, is limited, however, since the point of contact of the mobile phone with such a one-handed use is not directly below the center of gravity or the ease of use is dependent on the mobility of the fingers of the user. This is often no longer guaranteed, especially when a large number of entries are made via the keyboard.
The object of the invention is to propose a mobile telecommunications unit with improved ease of use, with which information can be sent without additional external input devices to be connected. The dimensions and weight of the mobile telecommunication unit should not differ significantly from those of the mobile telephones currently on the market. Furthermore, it is an object of the invention that the mobile telecommunication unit can be operated in a simple and uncomplicated manner controlled by software. This task is solved according to the invention in that in a mobile telecommunication unit with a telephone unit the keyboard is arranged above the display on the front of the device. With this new arrangement, the keyboard can be operated with the thumb while the device lies securely in the hand and the display is still easy to read. In addition, the software of the menu can be designed so that it is operated via at least one additional input device. These additional input devices are located on the back of the mobile telecommunication unit. These can be operated with the forefinger in a cramp-free hand position. According to the invention, a trackball, a wheel, a turntable, a roller, a coordinate slide, a 3D trackpad and / or a joystick is used as an additional input device. In addition to the claims, the features of the invention also emerge from the description and the drawings, the individual features each representing protectable designs, individually or in groups in the form of sub-combinations, for which protection is claimed here. Embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawings and are explained in more detail below.

Fig. 2 zeigt die Rückseite 5 des Mobiltelefons 1. Ein ungewolltes Drehen des Trackballs 6 wird verhindert.1 shows a mobile phone 1 in which a keyboard 2 is arranged above a display 3 on the front 4 of the mobile phone 1. With this arrangement according to the invention, the keyboard 2 can be operated with the thumb while the mobile phone 1 remains securely in the hand. The display 3 is still easy to read. Depending on the application, a single or multi-cell LCD display or a graphics-capable LCD display is used as the display 3. Fig. 2 shows the back 5 of the mobile phone 1. In the back 5, a rasterized trackball 6 is integrated as an additional input device. A grid of the trackball 6 offers a vertical and horizontal orientation aid. The take-off rollers of the X and Y axes of the trackball 6, not shown in the figure, are also rasterized. This enables better row and column guidance. An unwanted rotation of the trackball 6 is prevented.
Beispiel 2:Example 2:
In a modification of the first exemplary embodiment, a rotatably mounted wheel 7 is integrated into the rear side 5 of the mobile telephone 1 as an additional input device, as shown in FIG. 3. A grid of the wheel 7 supports controllable line jumps. The arrangement of the wheel 7 in the middle of the back 5 enables one-handed operation equally for left and right-handers.
Beispiel 3 :Example 3:
Beispiel 4:In a modification of the previous exemplary embodiments, a turntable 8 is integrated in the rear side 5 of the mobile telephone 1 as an additional input device, as shown in FIG. 4. A grid of the turntable supports controllable line breaks. The arrangement of the turntable 8 in the middle of the back 5 and a slight lateral protrusion of the turntable 8 on both sides over the side walls 9 enable one-handed operation equally for left and right-handers. Example 4:
In a modification of the previous exemplary embodiments, a coordinate slide 10 is integrated into the rear side 5 of the mobile telephone 1 as an additional input device, as shown in FIG. 4. The coordinate slide 10 can be moved on the back 5 very easily with the finger in a limited field in the X and Y directions. The limitation of the slide field 11 of the coordinate slide 10 is in a scale relationship to the display 3 to be controlled. The translation of the two axes is independent of one another. The translations to be used result from the size ratio of display 3 to the area of the slide field 11. This additional input device is particularly easy to navigate in electronic city maps.
Beispiel 5:Example 5:
In a modification of the previous exemplary embodiments, a 3D trackpad 12 is integrated into the rear side 5 of the mobile telephone 1 as an additional input device, as shown in FIG. 5. This convexly curved 3D trackpad 12 is used for better haptic orientation. Different translation zones extend the range of functions. A smaller translation is used in the central area 13 of the 3D trackpad 12, and a larger translation is used in the outer areas 14. This results in different resolutions.
Beispiel 6:Example 6:
In a modification of the previous exemplary embodiments, a joystick 15 is integrated in the rear side 5 of the mobile telephone 1 as an additional input device, as shown in FIG. 6. A vertical and horizontal control enables exact row and column guidance. The control lever 16 is either infinitely adjustable or in one or more stages, in particular, as in this embodiment, in two stages. This allows exact positioning and z. B. optional slow and fast menu navigation. The control lever 16 can be lowered into the interior of the mobile telephone 1 for better transport, can be folded over or removed by means of a hinge or ball joint.
