Abstract

A practise device (10) to aid in practising the guitar. The device (10) includes an elongated practise board (11) provided with transversely extending frets (12) and longitudinally extending ribs (16) which simulate strings. The device is provided with an elastically deformable strap (14) so that the board may be held in the user's palm.

Description

A Practise Instrument
Technical Field
The present invention relates to practise instruments and more particularly, but not exclusively, to a practise instrument for musical instruments having a bridge, such as a guitar.
Background of the Invention
Practising the guitar has alway meant physically handling a guitar during practise. This has disadvantages due to the size of the guitar and the fact that practice cannot be gained without actually using and engaging strings.
Object of the Invention
It is the object of the present invention to overcome or substantially ameliorate the above disadvantage.
Summary of the Invention
There is disclosed herein a practise device for a musical instrument, said device comprising: a finger board having frets defining areas which would simulate a specific tone to produce on the instrument; and means to aid in securing the finger board to the hand of a user.
Brief Description of the Drawings A preferred form of the present invention will not be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a schematic plan view of a practise device for a guitar; Figure 2 is a schematic side elevation of the device of Figure 1 ; and Figure 3 is a schematic sectioned end elevation of the device of Figure 1.
Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiment
In the accompanying drawings there is schematically depicted a device 10 to aid in practising the guitar. The device 10 includes a practise board 11 which is generally elongated and provided with transversely extending frets 12. Typically the frets 12 would be positioned so as to simulate the frets on the finger board of a guitar. If so required, the upper surface of the fmger board 11 would be provided with information to aid in practising the guitar.
Attached to the finger board 11 is a strap 14 which is formed of elastic material. Defined between the finger board 11 and strap 14 is a space 15 through which a users hand would pass. The finger board 11 is intended to be located in the palm of the hand the strap 14 passing around the back of the hand. This then leaves the fingers of the user to move along the surface 13 for the purposes of practicing the sequence of movements of the fingers required to play a particular set of note on the guitar.
The surface 10 would be provided with strings or longitudinally extending ribs 16 which simulate the strings of a guitar.

Claims

1. A practise device for a musical instrument, said device comprising: a finger board having frets defining areas which would simulate a specific tone to produce on the instrument; and means to aid in securing the finger board to the hand of a user.
2. The device of claim 1, wherein said board is of a length to be supported in the palm of a user.
3. The device of claim 1 or 2, wherein said means to aid in securing the board to the hand of a user is a strap.
4. The device of claim 3, wherein said strap is formed of elastic material.
5. The device of claims 1 to 4, wherein said surface has longitudinally extending strings or ridges extending generally normal to said frets.
6. The device of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein said board is elongated and said frets extend generally transverse of the longitudinal direction of the board.
7. The device of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein said board and frets simulate the finger board of a guitar.
8. A practise device for a musical instrument, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
