DESIGN.
No. 35,212. Patmed oct. 22, Ism.
lD. C. SMITH.
, BARBE'D FENICEv WIE.
(Mpman-ian alga my 1s, 1901;)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DATUs ca SMITH, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
SPECIFICATION forming part of :Design No. 35,212, dated october 22,- 1901.
Application iiled J'uly 18,1901. Serial No. 68,850. Term of patent 14 years! To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, DATUS C. SMITH, acitizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and iginal Design for Barbed Fence-W'ires; and
do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
In the accompanying drawings, which are to be taken as a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a plan view of a brokenaway portion or section of a barbed fence- 1 wire, showing my new design; and Fig. 2 is a side View of the same.
As shown in the drawings, the said barbed fence-Wire consists of a single strand orwire A, having at suitable intervals therein crimps or bends, one of which is denoted by the letter B, and also at intervals other crimps, one of which is shown at C, the latter being provided with xed sharp-pointed barbs D, said barbs presenting the appearance of prongs whose bases are coiled around dierent portions of the crimp or bend with a connecting portion bent or coiled tightly about the intermediate portion of the bend or bulge at an angle to said coils and prongs.
As Will be seen, the leading or material features of my design reside in a single strand or wire having crimps or bends therein at intervals and also having at intervals other crimps or bends provided with sharp-pointed barbs, the intermediate portions of which appear coiled about the wire at said crimps in such manner that the members of the barb that encircle the wire present themselves at different angles to one another and also Wind about different angles formed in the Wire by the crimp, thus rigidly fixing the barb to the wire and leaving prongs projecting outwardly at an angle to the body of the wire.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isy The design for a barbed fence-wire, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. in presence of two witnesses.
