Application led .'anuary t, 1909. Serial No. 470,805.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD C. Kanonen,
n citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane' and State of l Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in W'alled Safes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of thls invention is to secure a sato within the wall of a partition by mefans which are operated from Within the sa e.
T he further object of this invention is to form a iiutcd air s ece around the "edo'es back and ends of the safe.
The further object of this invention is to cover` the Huted air space with concrete.
In the accompanyinfr drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical'seotion through the safe and through the partition supporting it. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the safe 1n which the supplemental back is separted from the safe proper. y
The safe proper comprises thefront 1 to which the door 2 is hinged in the usual man ner, the sides 3, ends 4 and back 5 suitably connected are formed of 'a single piece if desired. The interior arrangement may be made to suit the purchaser. The back 5 is formed with four openings 6. The supplemental back 7 has an edge flange 8. Screws pass through the openings 6 in the back 5 of the safe properinto the bosses 10 extending from the inside of the supplemental back.
Around the sides 3, ends 4 and hack 5 of the sate proper between the front l and the supplemental back 7 is located a corrugated strip l1, and outside of the corrugations is placed concrete 12. Outside of the concrete "is secured a casing 15 by the screws 16. The trout 1 of the safe, and the supplemental back 'Z are placed a ainst opposite sides of the lastering 13 ot the partition and the stud ing 14 serves to give a firm support to the safe. By this construction, the safe is supported wlthin an opening in the partition and cannot be taken down except by removing the fastening means through the door opening. n
I claim as my invention.
1. A walled safe'comprising a safe roper having e flanged front, a supplements back, and means connecting the supplemental back vto the'back of the safe proper, said means manipulated only through the door opening ofv the safe proper. l 2. A Walled safe comprising a sate proper, a supplemental back secured tothe back of the safe proper, and a corrugated strip located exterior to the sides, back and ends of the safe proper.
3. A Walled safe comprising asafe proper, a supplemental back secured to the back of the safe proper, a corrugated strip located exterior to the sides, back and ends of the sate proper and concrete embeddingthe corrugated strip.
n testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand `in presence of twol subscribing Witnesses.
