Specification oLLetters-Patent. 'appnamos meu ocmer 1931905. sefiarno. 2331405.
E Be-it known that I, JosnUaRf'RrrcmE; a citizen of the Unitedstates'residing in the "and county of Philadelphia, "State of have invented a new and useful-'Envelop, of which 'the"follovc'ing"- is a specification.
' My invention consists of an envelop provided on an'exposed face" 'with "a'concealed advertisement, the "same" being visible when the portion or section of the envelopcontaining said advertisement is released from the remainder of the envelopfwhen as attention is directed to the advertisement by suitable notice of the same on the outer face of said portion, the advertisement is sought on the rear of the latter, hence readily accomplishing its purpose.
t also consists in with a recess so place tion of a paper thus facilitatin the opening of the envelop and the removalof the advertisingportions or section of the same.
Fi re 1 represents a front elevation of an roviding the envelop as to allow the inserenve opembodyingmyinvention. .Fi .2represents an elevation partly of the bao of the envelop and partly of the inner face of the front of the envelo Fig. 3 represents a front elevation of t e envelop showing the feature of advertising embodying my invention. 7
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the fi ures.
Referring to the drawings: Adesignates an envelo the same having a portion or section B of t e exposed face thereof adapted to be severed from the remaining portion by lines of perforations A, A around said portion, the perforations A bein on the edges of the envelop. On the outer ace of said section is a notice 0 of the existence of an advertisement D on the back wall thereof, said notice in the present case consisting of suitable words, such as See back of this. Out perforated lines. The advertisement consists of any matter velop, say rior to completion of the envelo whereby w en the envelop is occupied and m the course of transmittal, the advertisement is concealed, but when it reaches its destinat1on, the receiver perceives the notice C and so relieves the section B by entirely or artly cutting or tearin the perforations, w on as his attention is irected to the back of the nature was known ."the
cutter or other implement,
printed on what will con-- stitute the inner face of the front of the en- -section B, he turns the'latt'er and so resents "the advertisement which of'course' ecomes more interesting and impressive than its prior to the'severanceof ortion'inquestlon; the object of the advertlsement thus being accomplished.
It is evident that after the section B is'r'emoved, the remaining portion'of the envelo remains intact so that while the envelop -'1s useless for re-mailin%,it is-left in conditionto return a letter or ot or matter thereinto'and retain the latter therein, as an inclosure'stiffioien't for all practical purposes as such.
The section B in the present'case is in art that occu ied by the ostage stam w 'ch is preferalil the right and side of t e front of the enve op, but the position of the hand mag be changed to the left or elsewhere.
designates a recess which is formed in the face of the envelop at the inner edge thereof along the perforations thereat, the same being ada ted for the insertion of a paper cutter or 'fe, which b nipulation may cut through said perforations and thus practically open the envelop and release the section B.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A commercial envelo normally exposed face and on an integral section thereof a primarily concealed advertisement normally facing the interior of the envelop, said section being adapted to be released and render the advertisement visible and at the same time permitting the con tents of the envelo to be removed, and means on the norma 1y exposed face of said section directing attention to the back of the same whereon said advertisement is concealed and how the same is made accessible.
2. A commercial -envelo' having on the normally exposed face an on an integral section thereof a primarily concealed advertisement normally facing the interior of the envelop, said section being surrounded by perforations for release from the remaining intact portion, a recess formed in said section only and communicating with said perforations for the insertion of an implement to the latter, whereby said section may be opened and reversed to expose the advertisement on its other face, and the contents of the envelop removed and means on the normally exposed face of said section directing attention to the back of the same, whereon said advertisehaving on the Pateflted ran. 26, 1909.
y proper mament is concealed, and how the same is made accessible.
3. A commercial envelo having on the normally exposed face an on an integral section thereof a primarily concealed ad ertisement normally facing the interior of the envelop, said section being surrounded by erforations for release from the remaining lntact portion, a recess formed in said section only and communicating with said perforations for the insertion of an implement to the latter, whereby the envelo may be opened and said section reverse A to expose theadvertisement on its other face, and the contents of the envelop removed without further'opening, said section being entirely independent of the sealing flap and means on the normally exposed face of said section directing attention to the back of the same,
2 whereon said advertisement is concealed,
and how the same is made accessible.
4. A commercial envelop having on the normally exposed face and on an integral "section thereof a primarily concealed advertisement normally facing the interior of the envelop, said section being surrounded by erforations for release from the remaining intact portion, a recess formed in said section only and communicating with said perforations for the insertion of an implement to the latter, whereby the envelop may be opened and said section reversed'to expose the advertisement on its other face, and the contents of the envelop removed without further opening, said perforations being disposed at the marginal edge of the envelo and means on the normally exposed face of said section directing attention to the back of the same, whereon saidadvertisement is-concealed, and how the same is made accessible.
