JOSEPH F. RIEDY, OF HAMBURG, IOWA.
DISPLAY-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 12, 1909.
Application filed February 13, 1908. Serial No. 415,741.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. RIEDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamburg, in the county of Fremont and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in display racks and while it is primarily designed as a display rack for mattresses, it is evident that it may be employed in any other connection where a device of this kind would be practicable and desirable.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like parts are designated by like characters throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the display rack constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on an enlarged scale of the binding means for each end of the connecting bars or elements. Fig. 4 is a cross section taken on the plane indicated by the dotted lines 4:& of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is an end view of the modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawings which are for illustrative purposes only and aretherefore not drawn on a scale, the numerals 1 indicate the corner posts or supports which are preferably made from gas pipe tubing or the like and are mounted on casters 2 of any desired form.
The numeral. 3 indicates a vertical series of mattress supporting frames which are arranged between the corner posts as shown.
In carrying out the invention, the ends of the side pieces 4 of each of said frames are split longitudinally as at 5 and are formed at the inner ends of such split portions with transverse apertures 6 designed to receive the posts 1. Binding elements, preferably in the form 'of bolts 7 extend transversely through the split end portions of the side bars of the frames and nuts 8 are screwed on said bolts, said bolts and nuts constituting means for securely binding or clamping the split end portions of the side bars of the frames against the corner posts 1.
End pieces 9 of wood or other suitable material are arranged between the corner post at each end of the rack, the ends of said end pieces being split and apertured to correspend with the end of the side bars of the mattress frames, and the end portions of the end pieces being clamped against the corner posts by connecting bolts and nuts 7 and 8 as above described.
As illustrated in Fig. 5, the rack may be made in the form of a twin rack in which case three upright posts would be arranged at each end of the rack and the ends of the end pieces besides being split and apertured as above described, would be formed centrally of their ends with apertures 10 to receive the intermediate or central post. In practice a pair of diagonally arranged braces 11 are arranged at each end of the rack and between two of the end pieces at said ends when the rack is constructed in conformity with the structures illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, and two pair of diagonally arranged brace bars 11 arranged at each end of the rack when the latter is constructed in conformity with the structure illustrated in Fig. 5.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be readily comprehended without a more extended explanation.
I claim as my invention:
1. A display rack comprising a plurality of supporting frames consisting of cross bars and side members, said side members being apertured and bifurcated at their ends, a plurality of supporting rods passing through the apertures, bolts passing through the bifurcated ends of said side members to hold the frames in adjusted position thereon, end guards independent of the frames and having apertures in their ends to receive the rods, said guards being bifurcated, and clamping bolts passing through the bifurcated ends of said guards to clamp the same on the rods whereby they may be adjusted thereon independently of the frames.
2. A display rack comprising a plurality of supporting posts, article supporting frames vertically adjustable on said posts and comprising side members and cross bars secured thereto, end members independent of the frames and slidable on said posts and adapted to normally rest upon said side bars, means to adjust the end members independently of said frames, brace bars connected at their opposite ends With two of said end members and crossed intermediate of their length, said brace bars adapted to keep the connected end members in parallelism 1n all 10 adjustments, and asupporting frame adjustmy hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
