Letters Patent No. 88,057, dated March 23, 1 869; antedated Ma/rch 12, 1869.
CONIBINED COAT-HOOK AND LINE-HOLDER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters. Patent and making part of the sama.
Toall whom it may concern:
,-Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. MIDDLETON, of Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined OoatfHook and Line- Holder; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of myinvention consists in the construction and combination of a coat-hook with a lever, so arranged as to form a line-holder.
`In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe' its construction and operation.
In the annexed drawings, forming part of this speciication- A represents a metal plate, secured, by any suitable means, to a wall, B, or wherever it may be desired to apply it.
At the upper en d of said plate extends an arm, C, the outer end of which is bent upward, so as to form a hook..
On this arm O, a lever, D, is pivoted, said lever being so constructed as to form a ring, a, at its upper end, and having, at its lower end, two arms, b b, extending, on e on each side thereof.
The ends of these arms are bent toward the rear, or
provided with flanges, c c,which .project on the sides of the plate A, near its bottom end.
A rope, or line, d, passed up between one of the arms b and the plate A, and then through the ring a, forward, will press these arms close to said place, thereby holding itself tightly in place.
I am aware that a coat-hook and line-holder combined is, of itself, not new.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe coat-hook C, in combination with the lever D, constructed as described, or its equivalent, and acting as a line-holder, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. y
