POST-MOLD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1 90s.
hpplication filed January 31. 1907- 'Serial No. 354.961.
1 Be it known that I, JONAS 7H. Wiesr, a
citizen of the United .States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Post-Molds; and I do-declare the foll'owi and ex'actdescription the invention, refer-' to be a full, clear,
ence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of referencemarked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
' fparticu arty to forms sides of the osture shaped.
This inwentionrelatesfto sectional forms l for use in molding ,plastic' material'such ,as
concrete into forms. of fence posts or other similar, osts, the invention having reference whereby two opposite The object of the inventionis to provide an improved metallic mold of the abovementioned-character, adapted to be adjusted so as to form different sizes of posts, and to provide a mold that'may 'be easily handled 'and be strong, durableand economical in use.
With the above mentioned and minor objects in' view the. invention consists in an adjustable-mold. having two opposite side formsconnected together by an e astic head form and a foot form hinged to one of the side forms to be connected detachably to the other one of the side forms, the foot form being-preferably extensible and the side forms being preferably extensible laterally so .that posts of different thicknesses may be molded thereby. g t
The inventionconsists further in the .novel parts and in the combinations and arrangements of parts embodied in the constructlon ,as hereinafter particularly described and 40 pointed out in t e appended claims.
Referring to the drawings Fi ure I is a perspective view of the improve mold with V the side forms contracted; Fig. 2, a top plan of the mold with the foot-form? disconnected from one of the side formsand the free ends of, the side form's drawn together b the elastic head form, showing tions of the. side forms re mold is not adjusted for'use; Fig. -3, a pers ctive view .of the head brace of the mold;

lookin dar reference characters in the differ Simi ments or features of construct on.
In a practical embodiment of the invention the main art ofthe mold com' rises two sheet meta lates A and A whic are designed tostan up edgewise when in use ent figures of thedrawings designate like eleon a pallet or a smooth floor, the lower edges l of the (plates having L-section angle. irons B l rivete to the outer sides thereof extendin frpmthe footfends of the lates to an slightly beyond the head en s thereof; the
upper edges of the side plates having L section angle irons, B secured thereto .and
likewise extendin beyond .the'head ends'of the plates. The ower'edges of the l'ates A. and A are preferably turned away om the angle irons B so as to form angular li s a whereby beveled corners may be formed on the posts. A curved head form C- is composed of spring steel and has its ends abutt ting the head ends of the plates A and A, and
is secured by bolts 6 tothe pro'ecting ends he foot end of the plate Ahas a hinge part D formed 80'.
of the angle irons B and B. 1
thereon. A foot form E has a hinge part -F formed thereon which is connected by a hinge pin '0 to the hinge part D. An extension plate G has slots (Z and is connected;
to the foot form E adjustably by means of bolts e extending through the slots. hasp H is connected by a-hinge f to a hasp plate q late 1 G,
the has being rovided with ahook where? by to rovided. The head form C, and the foot 4 orm may be of any suitable height, but preferably are of the same hei ht as the side lates A and A, if the 11101 is intended to orm'all posts of uniform thicknessin one described, and extension plates K and; K L
are provided that are adjustable with res ect e lates A and A, the. extension p ates exteriorly W1 etacha lyconnect the hasp with a" f staple J with whichthe side plate A is direction, but when the side forms are made 1 extensible as shown then the head form and B have finger holes h and i in their ends for convenience in lifting the mold. The guide bars M and M have pin holes j therein, the
' angle bars B having slots is therein. to receive gether.
the guide bars M and M, and pins Z are provided to be inserted in the holes j, either upon the tops of the angle bars B or through guide bars N, N that are secured to the angle bars B and B. In this construction the side form extensions K and K may be elevated to various heights up to the heights of the head and foot pieces so that various thicknesses of posts may be made. Guide strips m are secured to the side lates A and A and extend from the an le ar B to the angle bar B behind the gui e bars N and N so that the guide bars M and M may be guided accurately.
An adjustable semi-circular brace is pro vided at the head of the mold to stiffen the head form C and comprises a segment 0 and a segment O that has a slot n receiving a set screw p that connects the two segments to- A foot brace is also provided for racing the extensible parts of the side forms and comprises a section P and a section P, one being provided with a set screw 9 extending through a slot 1" to adjustably hold the two sections together. The braces are both rovided with hooks s at their ends that are msertible in holes t in the ends of the angle bars L and L.
In practical use the mold is to be laced on a level floor or on a pallet. The oot form may be adjusted so as to mold the posts of any suitable width at the foot without materially changing the width at the head of the post, the head form C however, permitting of slight variation in the width of the head of the post, and if the head of the post is desired to have much greater or less width a head form of different diameter will be substituted for the one shown herein. Having coupled the foot form so as to connect both side forms, the material is to be laced in the mold as usual and after having been tamped sufficiently to permit of removal of the forms then the. foot form may be disconnected by means of the hook i and may be swung away from the post, after which the foot ends of the side forms may be forced apart away from the post and then lifted away entirely from the molded post which will remain to be come thoroughly cured. The 0st of course may be provided with any suitable type of binders and fencing fasteners.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A post mold comprising a pair of sideforms each consisting of a plate and angle ll'OIl bars secured to edge. portions of the of extensible plates having angle-iron plate, an elastic head form attached to ends of the bars and abutting the plates of the side forms, and a foot form to cooperate with the side forms.
2.-A post mold comprising two straight sheet metal plates, a curved plate, four anglebars secured to the curved plate, two of the angle-bars being secured to one of the straight plates and the other two angle-bars secured to the other straight plate, and a foot form hin ed toone of the straight plates and attachable to the other one of the straight plates.

5. A post mold comprising a pair of side forms having extension plates connected thereto, a curved elastic head form attached to the side forms, a foot form hinged to one of the side forms and attachable to the other one of the side forms, and a air of braces attachable to the extension p ates of the side forms at the head and foot forms respectively. r
'6. A post mold comprising a pair of main side form plates having angle-iron bars secured thereto and provided-with slots, a air ars secured thereto and provided with perforated guide bars adjustable in the slots, pins insertible in the perforations, a curved elastic head form connecting the main side form plates together, and an extensible foot form to connect the main side form plates and also the extensible plates together.
7. A post mold comprising a pair of main side forms having parallel guide bars attached thereto, extensible side forms provided with perforated guide bars adjustable between the parallel guide bars, pins insertible in the perforations of the guide bars, a curved elastichead form connected detachably to the mainside forms, and an extensible foot form hin ed to one of the main side forms and attachable to the other one of the main side forms.
8. A post mold comprising a pair of side form latcs having lower angles edges, angleiron ars secured to the plates opposite to the angled edges thereof, angle-iron bars at- In testimony whereof I affix my signature tached to the o posite ed es of the plates and in presence of two witnesses. havin fingeroles in t e ends thereof, a JONAS H WIEST.
