WILLIAM FAWCETT,YOF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASVSIGNOR TO FAWCETT BROTHERSAND RICHARD CAMPBELL, OF SAME PLACE. Lema Patent No. 87,402, zaad Ma/rcn 2, 1869.
MROVED HAMESQFASTENING.
.l I. The Schedule referred to in there Letters Patent and making part of the sama.
To all whom 'it ma/y coment-.- v
`Be it known `that I, WILLIAM Fnwcnrr, of New York, in the countyof New York, and State of New I York, have invented anew and improved Haines-Fastening; and Ido'hereby declare that the following-is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front View of a set of hames to which my improved fastening has been attached, part being broken away to show the construction.
'Figure 2 is a cross-section of the fastening; taken through the line :c x of iigfl.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved hames -fastening, designed more particularly for the hames of light harnesses, andwhich shall be so couv structed as to-hold vthe-hames securely against side strain,'and at the same time vbe easily and conveniently Adetached and attached; and
' It consists in the fastening constructed as hereinafter more fully described. A
A are the hames, which are constructed in the ordinary manner, except'that the ordinary `strap-loops' at the lower ends of saidharness, are replaced with strong dat hooks al, as shown in lig. 1.
B is the fastening, which is made curved, to correspond with the curve of the lower parts of the hamesv A.v In the ends of `the fastening B, are formed sockets to receive and fit upon the dat hooks a of the hames A, as shownv in iig. 1.
By this construction, however much the tug-ears ai may project, and however little they may be supported by the pad ofthe collar, the side-strain` upon the hames A will be resisted, and supported by the fastening B,
keeping the said hames always in their proper positions.
To the lower part of the inner side of the middle of the fastening B, is attached, or upon it is formed a loop, h, for the martingale-strap, and upon the lower side of the middle part of the said fastening B, is formed a loop, b2, to receive the pole-strap.
Having thus described my invention,
vI claim as new, as far as it is now perfected- 1. An improved hames-fastener B, constructed substantially as herein shown and described, that is to say, formed with sockets or openings to receive the at hooks a of the hames A, whether providedwith the loops bl b, either or both, or not, as and for the purpose'set forth. v
2. Forming dat hooks a upon the lower ends of the;WN
