COMBINED GUN-CASE AND .AMMUNITION-BELT.
Patented Dec. 10, 1907.
Application led June 27. 1906,'Serial1l'o. 323.674. Renewed September 16. 1907. Serial No. 393.117.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, NELSON T. VELI- QUETTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kewadin, inthe county oi Antrim, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Gun-Case and Ammunition-Belt; and I do hereby declare the following to be a lull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others. skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to combined gun cases and ammunition belts and has for its object to provide an extremely simple device of this character which may be manu factured at a low cost and which will not be cumbersome.
A further obj ect of the invention is to provide an article of this class including a shoulder strap and further resides in connecting the ends of the strap to the case at equi-distant points from the ends of the series of cartridge loops. As the major portion of the Weight is on this portion of the device when in use as a belt, it will be seen that by connecting the strap with the belt in this manner, the weight will be evenly distributed.
ll/Tith the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, shown in the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a side elevation of the case.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the same when in use as a belt, and, Fig. 3 is an end view showing the manner of folding the gun stock containing portion of the oase when in use as a belt.
The case as shown, is designed to contain a gun having a rigidly connected stock and barrel, the portions of the case for the reception of these parts of the gun being indicated by the numerals 5 and 6 respectively. One of the sides of the stock end of the case is provided with the usual flap closure 7 which is provided with the ordinary strap 8 for engagement with a buckle 9 carried by the otler side of the case at the corresponding en Permanently secured to that side of the portion 6 of the gun case upon which the flap 7 is located is a cartridge supporting strip comprising the usual series of loops 10 and the said strip extends from a point adjacent the end of the portion 6 to a point slightly beyond the junction of the portions 5 and 6.
In order 'that the case may be used as a belt and secured around the waist of the user, I secure upon that side of the portion 5 of the casing from which the flap 7 extends, a strap 11 which is designed Jfor engagement with a buckle 12 upon the corresponding side of the portion 5 of the casing and intermediate the end of the same and the adjacent end of the loop series 10. When used as a belt, the portion 5 of the casing is folded upon itself along the dotted lines 12 indicated 1n Fig. 1 and as shown in Fig. 2, to lie against the opposite side of the casing to that upon which the loop series l() is located. It will be noted that by Jfolding the casing in this manner, the buckle 9 and strap 8 will be covered by the folded portions and Will not injure the clothing of the hunter.
In order that the weight of the belt may be partially sustained by the shoulders, I provide a shoulder strap 13 which is secured at its ends to the portion 6 oi the case, at equidistant oints from the ends of the loop series 10, 1n this manner equally distributing the weight.
It is to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. A gun case including a barrel inclosing portion and a stock inclosing portion, a series of cartridge loops secured upon its barrel inclosing portion and extending substantially throughout the entire length thereof, the stock inclosing portion of the gun case being foldable upon itself to form a belt portion which constitutes a continuation of the barrel inclosing portion and is substantially the same width as the barrel inclosing portion, and a strap carried by the stock inclosing portion.
2. A gun case including a barrel inclosing portion and a stock inclosing portion, a se'- ries of cartridge loops secured upon its barrel inclosing portion and extending substantially throughout the entire length thereof, portion and the other to the end of the flap the stock inolosing portion of the gun oase hethereof as and Jfor the purpose stated. 10 ing oldable upon itself to form a belt portion In testimony whereof, I aliX my signature, Which constitutes a continuation of the'barin presence of two Witnesses.
