RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4, 1907.
Application filed March 16,1907. Serial No. 352,751.
Be it known that I, TrioMAs 0. DURHAM, av citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in. thecounty and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Razor, of ivhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in razors and one of the objects thereof is to provide a device in which a thin,.replaceable blade is used and which may be used in the same manner as one of the usual type.
Another object is to provide a device of this character in which devices are employed for locking the blade in position, these devices being located beyond the ends of the blade.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain constructions and combinations which will be hereinafter hilly described and then specifically pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings which form a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate the same parts, l igure 1 is a plan view, partly sect-imial, oi a device construe ted in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the structure shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is cross-sectional view on an enlarged scale, taken on the ine 2:3 3-in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a detail view of a blade.
In the device selected to illustrate the invention there is provided. a thin blade 1 which has two cutting edges 2 and a*plu ralilyol' perl'ora tions 3, the purpose of which There is provided a support for the blade and this support may vary widely in structure. In the best ermslructious and as shown, a support +1- is provided which is narrower than the blade and extends throughout its length. A shank 5 is extended from one end of the support and this shank is pivoted at (i to a handle '7 01' any suitable structure. A clamp is provided for securing the. blade to the support and this clamp may vary Widely in structure. in the best constructions and as shown, a substantially [lat clamp 8 is used, the chunp being narrower than the blade and extending throughout its length.
The l studs carried clamp 8 is provided with means forpositioning the blade between the support and clamp and this means may vary in structure. As shown, two studs 9 carried by the clamp are employed for this purpose, the studs passing through the perforations 3 of the blade.
Means are provided for locking the blade in position, this means being carried by the clamp and located beyond the ends of the blade, engaging the support and having a sliding movement thereon to lock the blade Cianges and variations may be madeilr the structure by which the invention is carried into eile'ct. The invention, therefore, is not to be restricted to the precise details of the structure shown and described.
What is claimed is;
1. In a razor,the combination with a support, of a clamp,
a detachable blade, means tor positioning the blade between the support and clamp, and means carried by t e clamp beyond the ends of the blade enga ing the support and having a limited sli ing move'inent'thereon to lock the blade in position, substantially as described.
2. In a razor, the combination with a support having a plurality of slots, of a clamp, a' detachable blade, means for positioning the blade between the support and clamp, and a plurality of headed studs carried by the clamp beyond the ends of the blade and having a limited sliding movement in the slots of the support to lock the blade in stantially as described. W
3. In a razor, the combination with a. support having two countersunk slots, of a clamp, a detachable blade having two perforations,
position, sub- 9 into reg-.
by the clamp and engaging the 5 to lmk'the blade P ti ,"-substtnm11 itsdescribed. t
perforations to position the blhde between the support and clamp, and two headed studs two subscribing Witnesses.
can iegi hy the clamp beyond the ends of the I 1 blade and engaging the slots in the support I DURHAM name to this specification in the presence of Witnessest". r I 811mm J. PRESCOTT;
