Description

No. 851,289. PATENTED APR. 23, 1907 G. HORVATH.
DRAFT PRODUCING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED PBB. 9,1906.
WITNESSES way ATTORNEY UNITED STATES GEORGE HORVATH, OF BROOKLYN, NEWV YORK.
DRAFT-PRODUCING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ratentea April 23, 1907.
Application filed February 9,1906. Serial No. 300,253.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, GEORGE Honvarn, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft- Producing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present. invention pertains to a device for producing and increasing the draft through stove pipes or for ventilating buildings, cars and the like, and has for its object to provide an apparatus for attaining the above results that is light, strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar reference letters denote corresponding parts and in which Figure 1 is an elevation; Fig. 2 a longitudinal section on line 00-00 of Fig. 1 Fig. 3 a cross section on line y y of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 a cross section on line z z of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 a top plan view of my apparatus.
WVith reference to the drawings my invention consists in the arrangement of a mouth piece a which may be of circular, rectangular or any other cross section and which is adapted to be mounted on a stove pipe, stack or within the wall of a building or the like. Bigidly secured to the inner surfaces of the mouth piece a and arranged crosswise to each other are bars I), c in the centre of which an axle or red (Z is rigidly secured. The latter extends longitudinally of the mouth piece and projects therefrom outwards. By means of a ball bearing (2 the rod carries a conical head f, the point of which is directed outwards. This cone has a wing 9 attached thereto, which will permit the wind to rotate the same around the axle.
Attached to the inner surface of the cone f are bars h which are bent in Zig-zag and extend outwards towards the mouth piece a. At their opposite ends these bars are bent towards the shaft (1 and are secured to a ring 91 loosely borne on the latter. These bars serve for the attachment of deflecting wings or blades which have the shape of blunt cones arranged with their surfaces parallel to the surface of the head f and to each other. These blades are also arranged at some small distance away from each other, leaving free spaces for the passage of the wind.
At one side the blades are cut away as at k and the edges at the cut out portions are bent outwards to form auxiliary wings I which will support the action of the wind in turning the head f and blades around the axle d.
The aforesaid ball bearing of the outer conical head f upon the axle (Z consists of a pivot m screwed into a solid part a of the cone and having at its outwardly projecting end a semi-spherical excavation 0 to it on a small ball 1) borne in a correspondingly shaped excavation q made in the outer end of the axle d. This ball bearing is enclosed in a sleeve 1 suitably secured to the solid part a of the cone The mode of operation of this apparatus is as follows: The wind in striking the wing g and auxiliary wings Z of the blades 7' will turn the latter around the shaft d, and rising upon their conical surfaces will pass through the free spaces between the individual blades and the conical head and will exit at the cut out portions of the blades thereby creating a strong draft in the stove pipe or a ventilation in the building.
It is understood that the di'fl'erent parts of the apparatus may be modified without deviating from the spirit of my invention.
hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A draft producing device comprising a mouth piece, a rod or axle rigidly fixed there in to extend centrally and longitudinally outwards, deflecting blades having the shape of blunt cones and arranged parallel to and slightly apart from each. other, said blades being revolubly mounted on the said axle and each cut away at one side, and means permitting the wind to rotate the said wings around the axle, substantially and for the purpose as specified.
2. A draft producing device comprising a mouth piece, a rod or axle rigidly fixed therein to extend centrally and longitiulinally outwards, a conical head revolubly mounted thereon, a wing attached to the latter, bars bent in zig-zag and attached to the conical head, deflecting blades having the shape of blunt cones and arranged parallel and slightly apart from each other and secured to said Zigzag bars, each of the deflecting blades being cut away at one side and the edges of said blades at the cut away portions being bent outwards to form auxiliary wings, substantially and for the urpose as specified.
3. A draft pro ucing device comprising a mouth piece, a rod rigidly fixed therein to extend centrally and longitudinally outwards, a conical head, a ball bearing by means of which the said conical head is revolubly mounted on the said rod, bars bent in zig-zag and attached to said conical head and extending outwards therefrom towards the mouth piece, deflecting blades having the shape of blunt cones and attached to said zigzag bars slightly apart from each other,
10 each of said deflecting blades being cut away at one side and the edges thereof being bent outwards to form auxiliary wings, substan- GEORGE HORVATH.
