Description

Wr niieii @diam AMW.
. Magw/ l) C! l LEE D.C.RA1G,0E NEVA DA ci TY', CALIFORNIA. Latas Patent No. 84,860, dateapcembw 15, 186s IMPROVEMENT IN HAIR-CUTTING- SHEARS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, LEE D. CRAIG, of Nevada City, county of Nevada, State of California, have invented an Improved Combination Hair-Cutting Shears; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are suiieicnt to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains, to make and use my said invention or im proveniente without' further invention or experiment.
The object of my invention is to provide an irnproved attachment for shears to be used for hair-cutting.
rlhis improvement consists of a sliding 'slotted plate which may be moved up and down in a plane at right angles with that in which the blades of the shears move, and held at any point by a set screw, Below the blades this plate is bent at right angles, and has a short comb fastened to it, so that the comb is parallel with the blades. It also regulates the length, which is determined by the point at which it is set.
IQ more fully describe-my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters marked thereon, of which- Figure l is a plan view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation.
A and B are the two blades of the shears.
The blade A is made with a projecting lug, C, which serves as a nntthrongh which the set-sorew D passes. This lug may be fcrinec'l in one piece with the blade, or it may be welded on, as found most convenient.
The slotted plate E is made long enough-to allow` he comb to be set'at as great a distance from the blades'as will be necessary in cutting hair, and it is held at any point desired by turning the set-screw, and pressing it closely against the nut or lug C.
At a point below the blades, the plate E is bent at right angles, and extends a short distanceparalle'l with the blades. At the end it bears a' short comb, F,
` which is fastened firmly to it, so as to be nearly or quite parallel with the blades, the position being changed, however, if necessary, by means of the set-screw above mentioned.
.After setting the comb at a point whichwill insure the proper length to the hair, it is inserted from below and moved upwards, when` the hair will be thrown between. the blades, where it may be held in the usual manner until cut. -By this device I secure an even and regular cut to the hair, while the price of the shears is very slightly increased. They will be found very useful in places where no regular hair-cutter is to be found, as they may be operated by any one.
Having'thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
4In combination with the blades A and B, the comb A F, adjusting-plate E, set-screw D, and lug C, the whole forming a hair-cutting shears, substantially as described.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal. l
ALEE D. CRAIG. [n s.] Witnesses: Y J. L. Booms,
