I Be it known that I, IRA LI. HEss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nelson, in the county of Crawford and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roundabouts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
is an elevation of my improved device. Fig. said ratchets only upon the upward move- 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. is averment of the links K K. With this constructical section through the same. Flg. 4 is an tion it is necessary to provide meansfor checking the movement of the seats, and to accomplish this object I provide the forwardly and rearwardly extending arms 0 and P, respecenlarged detail view of a portion thereof. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail view of a modification. In the several views like letters of reference designate similar parts of my improved detively, which are preferably rigidly secured to vice. the spindles c c. Q Q are coiled springs inter- A in the drawings designates a vertical posed between the seat and the ends of the post provided with a suitable base a, the uparms O and P to cushion the movement of the seats. R R are rods secured to the seat and extending through said springs and arms to prevent said springs from being displaced.
From the foregoing description the operation of my device is obvious and merely necessitates the rocking of the seats or figures by the riders to operate the links, which in turn revolve the wheels which set the whole device into operation.
Although I have shown my improved methodof propulsion as applied to roundabouts, I do not wish to limit myself to such construction, as it may equally well be ap plied to gocarts, invalid-chairs, wheeled hobby-horses, and the like.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with an upright post, of a frame comprising radially-extending arms revoluper end of said post being provided with a circular portion a of smaller diameter than the lower portion.
B is a collar provided with a circular opening b, adapted to fit onto the spindle a and l rest upon the top of the enlarged portion of p the post A. B is provided with the out-' wardly-extending flanges 1) b between which are secured by any suitable means the ends of radially-extending arms 0 C, forming the revolving frame, said arms 0 C being provided at their outer ends with the spindle portions 0 0, preferably of smaller diameter than the remainder thereof.
D D are brace-bars extending from the outer ends of the arms C C to a plate E, revolubly mounted on the end of the post A. F F are arms secured by any suitable means to said radially-extending arms C O and are provided with the axle portions ff, extending bly mounted thereon, seats mounted on the cular track for said wheels and connections free ends of said arms to rock thereon, wheels between said seats and wheels whereby said revolubly mounted on axles connected with wheels may be rotated by rocking said seats,
