APBLIOATION FILED DEG. 10, 1903.
Inventor Attorney UNiTnD STATES Patented March 15, 1901.
NELSON COMP, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
SHOE-LACE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 754,851, dated March 15', 1904.
Application filed December 10, 1903. Serial No. 184,621. (No model.)
' To all whom, it may 007006770.
Be it known that I, NELsoN COMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Lace Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved shoelace holder for securing the knotted portion of a shoe-lace or other similar article when the same is tied or bowed and which also forms an ornament to the shoe or other article on which it may be used; and it consists in :the construction and combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a shoe-lace holder embodying my improvements, showing the same attached to a tied or bowed shoe-lace. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the same, taken on the plane indicated by the line a a of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a similar view taken on the plane indicated by the line 5 t of Fig. 3.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a casing 1, which is here shown as circular, but which may be elliptical or of any other suitable form. The said casing comprises an outer side 1 and a rim or flange 2, which extends inwardly therefrom and around the same. The said flange or rim is provided with a slot 3, and opposite thesame is pivotally attached one end of a tongue or yoke 4. The said yoke may be attached to the rim or otherwise connected to the casing for angular movement by any suitable means. I do not desire to limit myself in this particular. Neither do I desire to limit myself to the construction of the casing.
of notches 8 for the engagement of the outer end of the tongue or yoke, and by thus pro- I viding a plurality of these notches the tongue or yoke may be locked at any position that may be required in order to cause it to firmly clasp the rear side of the knotted portion of ashoelace or other article.
In operation the knotted portion of the shoe-lace or other article is placed in the easing, the tongue or yoke is pressed against the same to clamp it firmly between the tongue or yoke and the face of the casing, and the lock element is then moved in the position required to engage one of its notches 8 with the outer end of the tongue or yoke, thereby locking the latter in the required position to retain the holder on the knotted portion of the shoe-lace.
I do not desire to limit myself to the precise construction and arrangement of devices herein shown and described, as modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended-claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A shoe-lace holder comprising a casing, having a slotted rim, a tongue or yoke adapted to clamp the knotted portion of a shoe-lace between it and the casing, and a lock element for the tongue or yoke having a stud to operate in the slot of the rim, substantially as described.
2. A shoe-lace holder, comprising a casing having a slotted rim, a pivoted yoke or tongue to clamp the knotted portion of a shoe-lace, between it and the casing, and a yoke element having a plurality of notches to engage the free end of the pivoted yoke or tongue and a stud operating in the slot of the rim, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
