j Beit known thatl, MACK BOYD JUNE Si- MONDS, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Corry, in thecountyofErie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object oi' this invention is to provide an improved lock or fastening device for window-sashes which is simple in construction and operation and which may be applied to windows and window-savshes of any form or construction and by means of which a window-sash may be securely held at any point of adjustment and locked when closed.
The invention is fully described in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a sectional yiew showing `a part lof a window-frame and a part of a windowsash with my improved slash lock applied thereto; Fig. 2, a similar view of the lock re- In the drawings forming part of this speci-n cation I have shown at a a part of one side of a window-frame, and 'at b a part of the upper sash. In the practice of my invention, as shown in Fig.` l, I form in one side of the sash adjacent to the frame an elongated triangular recess c, which opens outwardly toward the frame and the apex of which isdirected inwardly or acrossl the sash, and as thus formed it will be seen that the inclined walls of the recess c, in connection with the frame of the window, form top and bottom wedge-shapecavities or recesses@2 and c3.

In the adjacent and largerV ends of the wedge-'shape locking devices d and d2 I have formed recessesd, in which are pivoted segmental links e, which are preferably provided with short slots e2 in both ends, through which are passed pivot-pins e3, andthe pivot-pins e3 in the opposite ends of the linkse secure said links to thewedge-shape lookin g devices d and d2, while the pivot-pin in the adjacent ends connects the links with a handle-rod f, which passes inwardly through an opening f2 inthe side of the sash and is provided with a knob The recesses d4 are also each provided with a pin g, each of which is secured in the corresponding locking device, and on these pins is placed a spiral spring g2, which serves to force the locking devices apart.
The operation of this form of construction will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings when taken in connection with the following statement thereof. In the normal position of the wedge-shape locking devices d and d2 they are forced apart by the spring g2,`and by reason of the shape of the which is secured to the sash b by the screw fi,
and this casing is provided with upwardly and downwardly directed arms h2, in which are wedge-shape cavities j and j?, and the casing h is also provided with an extension` h3, which projects inwardly or across the screw t'.
`In this form of construction the Wedgeshape locking devices d and d2 are placed in the wedge-shape cavities or recesses j andj! and are provided with the links e and the pins g,
the spring g2, and the handle-rod f exactly as shown with the construction shown in Figs. l and 2.
In the construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4 IOO the Wedge-shapelocking devices d and d2 are shorter than in the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, but the operation is the same as With said last-named construction.
With the construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the locking device or devices operate in connection With the bead or strip k, which forms a part of the groove or space in which the sash is mounted, and it is not necessary to cut or otherwise deface either the sash or the frame.
4In both forms of construction it will be seen that the operative parts, including the Wedge-shape devices d and d2, are mounted in a corresponding casing or holder, the casing or holder in one case consisting of the Window-sash, While in the otherit consists of a separate. part secured to the sash.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A Window-sash provided with vertically- Vmovable Wedge-shape locking devices,mounted in acasing or holder adapted to operate in connection With the stationary part of thewindoW-frame; a spring for forcing said locking devices apart, and means ofdravving them together, substantially as shown and described.
2. A Window-sash provided With a Wedgeshape locking device adapted to operate in connection With the stationary part of the Window-frame, and mounted in a holder; a
- spring for forcing the locking devices apart;
links pivotally connected with the locking device, and a handle-rod connected With said links and extending through said holder, substantially as shown and described. l
