TO ALL `WHOM ITMAY CONCERN: i
Be it known that I, JOSEPH Buscan, ot' Freeport, ia the onu ity of Stephenson, and State of Illinois, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Buekwheat-Hnlling Machine; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in tho art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of my improved helling-machine..

This invention relates to improvements in a machine for hulling bucknlieat or other grain, and consists in arrangements for driving the runner, for stepping the spindle, for regulating the suction of the fan-blower, and for shaking the trash-screen, as hereinafter particularly described. i
A represents the rectangular frame of a hulling-innchine, and on a central bottom cross-beam, B, is stepped the vertical spindle a of the burrC, placed in theiniddle of the frame. The spindle a is stepped in a bearing orjournal-box, b, secured on the cross-beani B. Thestep c fits loosely in the box b, and extends up into it to .meet the point oi' the spindle, while` it rests, utthe lower end, on the tightening-har N. The spindle extends down into the journal-box By this arrangement the spindley and the ste-p are both kept in place, and work freely and easily. On the spindle a, just above the cross-beam B, is placed a double knocker, d. for striking the vibrating spring-bar M, that shakes the trash-screen e, on the hopper D. The runner is provided with a combined driver and bail, g. The driver is a. cross-bar, set on the top oi' the spindle, with cross-heads or ends L, that are let into the bottom of the runner, and the ruimer is halancedth'ereon by two set-screws it', at cach end, passing through the ends of the crossheads t h, screwed into plates, and passing through the stoncfrom the top, as shown clearly in the drawings. On one side of the machine is placed a fan-blower, E, in the box F, on the top of which is a slide-damper or valve, 7c, to regulate the draught or suction ofthe fan; and a suction anddischargechute or spout, G, is connected with the fan-box F, and is arched over the machine. The discharge-spout m, leading from the millsto'nes, opens into the suction-spout G on the side opposite the fan. A vertical slide-valve, n, is placed in the suctionspout G, at the crown ofthe arch, to regulate the draughtof air, and catch the tailings or broken grain which pass out at that point from a discharge-spout, at the mouth of which is a leather flap, p.
Having described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Th'e arrangement of the tightening-bar N, spindle-step c,'knockers al, for operating thetrush-screen, spindle a-, bail g, fanfblower E, and curved spout G, as herein shown and described.
