JACOB SEBASTlAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y. I Letters Patent No. 72,424, dated December 17, 1867.
dtlgz' gtlgttnlz ttfttttl! in in this: Enters eat; in mating and at it: time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY .GONCERN: V f v Be it known that I, JACOB SEBASIIAN, of No. 700 Third avenue, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in wagomseats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in th e'art to make and use the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which drawin'g-.
' Figure 1 represents a transverse vertical section of this invention, when the seat is in working position.
Figure 2 is a similar view, when the seat is turned down out of the way.
Similar'letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in the arrangement of a hingedspring-arm, connected by a link with movable spring slide, in combination with a clasp, and with the seat ofa wagon, in such a manner that a firm and durable support for the seat is obtained, and that by removing" the spring-slide'from the clasp, the seat can be turned down out of the way, leaving the wagon free for loading, and protecting the surface of the seat against the influence of the rain. l I
A represents the seat, which is supported by two spring-arms, B. These arms are hinged at one end to the uprights C, and their other end connects, byhinged links a, with a slide, 1), which is made in the form of a (Q-spring, and the. loose-end of which passes through a loop, 6, and 'oatchesovena'cla-sp or clamping-screw, c;
The loop and the screw are firmly secured to the upright (Land by withdrawing the spring-slide Dfrom the loop and clamp, the seat canbe turned down to the position shown in fig. 2. -When the seat is in its Working position, it is firmly supported by the spring-arms B and spring-slides D, and a firrn and convenient seat'is obtained.
In loading the wagon, or when it rains, the seat is turned down to the position shown in fig. 2, and in this position it does notiuterfere with the operation of loading, and furthermore the surface of the seat is not exposed to the rain. The spring-arms-B and slides D are not liable to break, and if one of them should break, the seat will still be supported by the other, and the person or persons occupying the seat are not liable to sustain any m ury.
What I claim as new, and desire tosecure by LettersPatent, is
The spring-arms B, links a, and spring-slides D, in combination with the seat A and uprights C, substantially as andfor the purpose described.
Also the loops 6 and screws 0, in combination with the uprights C, spring-slides D, arms B, and seat A, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
. JACOB SEBASTIAN.
