To all whom it may concern/.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. CUNNING- HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bottle-Washing Machines, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of an improvement in a bottle-washing machine wherein I provide devices consisting of brushes for washing the interior and exterior' of the bottle and means for imparting rotary motion thereto, this application being a division of my application for patent for bottle washers, filed December 2l, 1901, Serial No. 86,770.

It further consistsof novel details of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a bottle-washing device having a supporting-v yoke in which is mounted afs'pindle C, which is provided with a bore D and has thereon av pulley E, and at one end4 is provided with a frame or plate F, having -slots G- therein. Suitable oil-cups H are supported in the yoke B for reciprocating the journals.

Secured to the spindle C by the screw J is the tube K, which communicates with thej bore D on said spindle and which is adaptedl to receive the stem L of the brush M, said brush being locked to the spindle C by the screw N, while mounted on the pipe K is a brush P, which is held in operative position` bya spring Q, which, in the present instance, is around the tube K.

R designates spring-arms which are suitably secured in the slots G by nuts S, the arms R having enlarged portions T, which engage with the plate F or with a disk U, which has suitable slots V therein,in which the arms R are also mounted, it being noticed that said slots V are at an angle to the slots Gr in said plate F, said disk being further provided with a suitable handle W, which projects beyond the plate F, ated.

Av designates ears or projections on the arms R, to which are pivoted the brushes B', it being noted that said brushes are pivoted at a point between the center thereof and the end of the brushes toward the plate F. yA suitable stuffing-box C is connected with the other end of the spindle C for evident purposes. l

D designates a suitable standard or support which is secured at any convenient point and is provided with the body portion E', which is preferably adapted to conform to the shape of the bottle. Said standard and body portion may be arranged to move in and out toward" the brush M and said body portion being adapted to receive the end portion of a bottle to support the same, the face of said body portion being provided with brushes or suitable material adapted to clean the bottle, if desired.

The operation is as follows: Suitable motion is imparted 'to the spindle C, in the present instance by a beltupon the pulley E,`and water or other, cleansing material is suitably whereby the disk can beoper- 'con ducted through theA bore D and from this into the pipeK, and the bottle, as shown in dotted lines, is placed in position between the brushes Band with'the brush M on the inj terior and the brush P contacting with the mouth of the bottle, the lower portion of said bottle being supported in the body portion E', as seen. When now power is imparted to the spindle C, the brushes will revolve and thoroughly" cleanse the bottle.

It will beA noted that the arms R can be adjusted in the'slots G, and thus cause the adjustment of the brushes B', and that owing to the construction of the arms R a certain movementof the brushes B is permitted, so that the parts V,will not be broken. It will also be noted that bymoving the brushes in the proper directionthe arms will be simultaneously adjusted, whereby it will be seen that Various-sized bottles can be inserted in the machine and that the'brushes B' by reason of their connection with the arms R can be adjusted therefor.

It will be evident that changes may be made IIO within Ythe scope of my invention, and I do not, therefore, desire to be limited in every instance to the exact construction herein shown and described.

Having tb us described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secule by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a bottle-Washing device, a brush suitably supported and adapted to be inserted in the bottle, a plurality of pivoted brushes adapted to contact with the exterior of the bottle, means for simultaneously adjusting.

said brushes, means for conducting suitable cleansing material Within said bottle, andi means for operating said brushes to revolve the same.

2. In a bottle-washing device, a brush suitably supported and adapted to enter the bottle, a plurality of brushes suitably mounted and adapted to wash the exterior of the bottle, a brush suitably mounted and adapted to contact with the mouth of the bottle and means for revolving said brushes whereby the bottle is thoroughly cleansed.

3. In a bottle-washing device, a frame, a brush secured thereto and adapted to enter the bottle, a plurality of brushes suitably mounted on said frame, means whereby said brushes can be adjusted independent of each other, and means for revolving said frame to operate said brushes.

4. In a bottle-washing device, a frame, a brush suitably secured thereto which is adapted to be inserted in a bottle, spring-arms connected with said frame and brushes pivoted to said arm and adapted to contact with the exterior of the bottle to Wash the same.

5. In a bottle-Washing device, a frame, a bore therein, a tube communicating with said bore, a brush connected with said frame, said tube and brush being` adapted to be inserted` in a bottle, spring-arms connected with said,

frame and brushes pivoted to said springarms and adapted to contact with the exte-l serted in the bottle, arms secured to said d frame, and brushes pivoted to said arms, out

of center, whereby the same will contact with the neck of the bottle and adjust themselves to the body thereof.

8. In a bottle-washing device, a frame, a brush suitably secured thereto which is adapted to be inserted in a bottle, a plurality of brushes suitably mounted upon arms, which latter are connected with said frame and means for simultaneously adjusting said arms, whereby the brushes can accommodate themselves for various shapes of botties.

9. In a bottle-washing device, a frame, a plurality ot brushes pivotally connected with said frame whereby the brushes can accommodate themselves to the exterior of the bottle, and means for adjusting said brushes with respect to said frame.

l0. In a bottle-Washing device, a frame, arms secured thereto, brushes pivoted on said arms and means for simultaneously adjusting said arms.v

ll. In a bottle-Washing device, a frame, arms secured thereto, brushes pivoted on said arms, and a plateforsimultaneously adjusting said arms.

12. In a bottle-Washing device, a frame, an arm secured thereto and a brush pivoted to said arm out of center, whereby the' same will contact with theineckof the`bottle and adjust itself to thebody thereof.

13. In a bottle-washing device, a `frame, a plurality of brushes suitably pivoted 0n said frame, means for revolving the same anda movable support for the-end ofthe bottle.

llt. In a bottle-washing device, a frame, a plurality of brushes suitably pivoted on said frame, means for turning said frame and a brush acting as a support for the end of ;the bottle and adapted to cleanse the bottom of said bottle.

15. In a bottle washing device, a brush suitably supported and adapted to enter the bottle, a plurality of brushes suitably mounted and adapted to wash the exterior of `the bottle, a brush suitably mounted and adapted to contact with the mouth of thebottlc, means for revolving said brushes whereby the bottle is thoroughly cleansed, and a brush adapted to contact with the bottomof the bottle.
