KITCHEN-TABLE.
SEECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 696,462, dated April 1,- 1902.
' Application filed December 29,1900. Serial No. 41,437. (No model.)
To all whom, t muy concer-71,:
Be it known that LCHARLES LMARKsTRoM, a citizen of the UnitedStates of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented Vcertain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in kitchen-tables designed especially with reference to saving as much labor as possible in connection with the same, making them convenient and easy of manipulation as well as strong and durable and less likely to need repair.
To such end the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, which will be fully described and claimed below.
In the drawings, Figure lis a front perspective of a complete table with the top raised. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section in plane 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3is ahorizontal section in line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. eisalongitudinal vertical section partly broken away in the plane 4E 4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a perspective of amidd1edrawersnpporting frame.' Fig. 6 is aperspective of two of the drawers. Fig. 7 is a vertical transverse section in line 7 7 of Fig. 3. Fig. S is a similarsection inline 88of the same ligure looking in the direction of the arrow 8. Fig. 9 is a front detail elevation of the middle portion of the table with the drawers removed. Fig. lO is an enlarged detail transverse vertical section in the plane 10 10 of Fig. 7. Fig. 11 is a detail of the pivoted arms which hold the top in its raised position, and Fig. 12 is a transverse section through said arms in the line 12 12 of Fig. 11.
Referring to the drawings, A is a at top adapted for use as a bread-board, and B B B2 B3 are four legs of ordinary construction supporting said top.
C is an upright front piece secured to the top board and to the legs and slotted at c c to receive slides D D', which may be drawn outward to furnish additional surface.
E E' are the end pieces of the table, and F the back.. In rear of the top is a box G, which furnishes a convenient place to keep the ordinary utensils used upon the top of the table and to the back of which is hinged a second to' I-I, adapted to fold down upon the iirst and otect the same except when not in use for the purpose for which it is intended. The
upper top is connected to the ends of the ta .ing back of aline connecting their end pivots.
A middle-drawer-supporting frame K is shown inrFig. 5, consisting of a horizontal portion 7e, provided at its rear end with a bracket 7c', which is secured to the back of a table, as is seen in Fig.- 7, and an upright portion k2, provided with a bracket k3, Secured to the front piece C, as is also shown in said figure. The upright portion has another bracket 7a4, upon which rests a strip I, Fig. 7, said strip being secured to the back of the table at t' and furnishing a slide, upon which the contiguous edges of the two upper drawers rest. The horizontal portion lo of the frame K is slotted in various places at h5, and rollers k6 are journaled in the slots, so as to project slightly from the-upper surface of the frame. Sockets klare also provided in the frame between the rollers, one of which, 7e3, preferably extends the entire length of the horizontal portion, and in these sockets are placed wooden strips ic k10,.the strips 109 being in the sockets k7 and the strip lolo in the socket ks. At each end of the table is secured a drawer-supporting frame M, substantially like half of the frameK minus the upright portion, said frame Ml being secured to the corner-posts and by means of brackets m on. A slide J is secured to said vcornerposts at each end to support the upper drawers. Said upper drawers are lettered N N and have upon their opposite edges strips 'n n to run upon the slides I J, the upright portion of the frame K being notched at 7c lo to allow these strips'to pass through. The lower` drawers are lettered O O and are preferably of the shape shown. Theyare provided upon their opposite ends with strips 0 o', adapted to run upon the rollers 706 in the frame K and corresponding rollers m2 in the frame M.
roo
The strips kf do not touch the supportingstrips o o' of the drawers when the latter rest upon the rollers k6 m2; but in ease the free end of the drawer is raised considerably in drawing it ont the ends of the supportingstrips o 0 will slide upon the blocks or strips lo instead ot' rubbing upon the middle bracket K. The strip 71:10 projects above the rollers 76, Fig. 5, and engages the sides ot the strips o o' to separate the two drawers O O.
The drawers are provided with suitable blocks X Y to prevent their front edges from dropping down when they are drawn outward to a considerable extent.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letter-s Patentl. In a kitchen-table, the combination with a suitable top and supporting-legs, of thev K, Comprising substantially the horiadapted to be attached to and the upright frame, zontal portion, 7c, the rear side of the table,
portion, k2, adapted to be secured to the top of the table, a dividing-strip secured in the horizontal portion of the frame and rollers jonrnaled in the horizontal portion on leaeh side of the dividing-strip, corresponding frames, M, secured at the ends of the table and the drawers, O, O', provided with suitable strips running upon said rollers; substantially as described. A
2. In a kitchen-table, the combination with a suitable top and supporting-legs, Vof the supporting-frames, K, M, M, provided with supporting-rollers and the drawers, O, O', provided with suitable strips running upon the rollers and with the blocks, Y, Y, adapted to engage the under sides of the frames to prevent the tilting of the forward portion of the drawers when drawn out beyond their center of gravity; substantially as described.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, this 22d day of December, A. D. 1900.
CHARLES L. MARKSTROM.
