ROLLING PIN.
(Application filed Dec. 17, 1901 I To aZZ whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE J. MILLER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE TO JOHN B. MEYER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
ROLLING-PINE SPECIFICATION forrning part of Letters iPatent No. 695,41 1, dated March 11, 1902. Application filed D ecember-17 ,'1901. Serial im-86,308. (No medal.)
Be it knownthat I, GEORGE J. MILLEma citizen of the United States, residing at Balti-' more, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rolling-Pins, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pastry-rollers, commonly termed rolling pins.
The invention is adapted to that class of rolling-pins which employ a plurality of rollers.
The object of the invention is to provide a.
cheap and simple construction whereby the rollers and other parts may be quickly and easily separated in order that they may be cleaned and readily replaced.
The invention isillustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an underneath perspective view of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the rollers and one of the end bearings removed and a portion in section. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one of the rollers. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the confining- Wedge. i
In the drawingsm designatesa back, which in the present instance is rectangular in shape, and on the under side a bearing-block.
c is permanently secured. 'The'manner of securing this block in the present instance is that the edge of the block fits snugly in a cross-slot b in the back, and one or more dowel-pins (1 connect the block and back. This permanent block has two holes or journal-bearings e e. The back a on its under side is also provided with a second slot f, which is taperedfrom one end to the other and extends crosswise of the back, and one wall f of the slot is beveled or undercut, so that said slot in a vertical direction is broader at the top thanat the bottom and in a horizontal direction is broader at one end than at its'oth er end. A'removablejbearing-block it,
having two'bearin'gs 'i this adapted to be in-' serted in said slot f, and a tapered wedge 76, having a beveledwall Z, which coacts with the slot f serves to ri'gidly clamp this bearing-block h in position. Two rollers m and n each have at their ends journals 0, which take-in the bearings e e and i d, and said rollers are thereby adapted to revolve.
The operation is simple and obvious. To remove the rollers, it is only necessary to withdraw the wedge'lc, and the bearing-block h may' then bere mov'ed andthe rollers withdrawn from the bearings.
Having thusde'scrib'ed'my invention, what I claim as new, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' 1. In a rolling-pin, thecombination of a back; a bearing-block*permanently secured to the under side of said-back; a removable bearing-block having oneedge in a crosswise slot insaid back; a clampingdevice coacting withlsaid crosswise slot and holding the said removable block; and rollers journaled in the two blocks.
- 2.*In-"a-ro1ling pin, the combination of a back provided'on its under side near one end "with a tapered slot; a bearing-block in said groove or slot; a wedge coacting between said groove and bearing-block to clamp the latter inplace; a second bearing-block secured at the'opposite end of said back; and a plurality .of rollers supported between said two bearing-blocks.
In testimony whereof I aftix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
GEORGE J. =-MILLER.
