CENTRIFUGAL MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 665,263, dated January 1, 1901.
Application iiled April Z, 1900.
To all whom, it mol/y concern:
Be it known that I, MARCEL PETITQUEUX, engineer, a subject of the King of Belgium, residing at Bas-Cha, Belgium, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Centrifugals; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to separators and driers, and more particularly to sugarcentrifugals.
The obj ect of the invention is to provide an apparatus of this nature which will be simple and inexpensive in construction and operation and will afford an economy in space.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention in a vertical longitudinal section.
The shaft a of the centrifugal is horizontally mounted in bearings a and carries at one end a power-transmitting pulley b.
The centrifugal c has the general form of a truncated cone, usually constructed of sheet metal and rigidly secured to the shaft by disks c, as shown. The centrifugal is open at both ends, fully so at the front, but only partially at the back, where the material enters from chtite m, and has its periphery perforated, as shown at c.
The centrifugal carries a heli cally-arran ged iin or blade f. This has the purpose to push forward the contents of the centrifugal,which otherwise, owing tothe peculiar shape of the apparatus and the force with which it is rotated, would have the tendency to accumulate at the back in the gutter formed by flange g and the disk c.
The centrifugal is inclosed in a casing d.

The latter is open at both ends and has its wall s inclined at the base to form a trough, as d'. It also has the front annular gutter h, which discharges at h.
It is evident that my improved construction gives the same result that is otherwise only obtained in a drum of great length, employing numerous spiral detlectors in close proximity to one another. The material is advanced very slowly through the apparatus, being simultaneously subjected to two counter opposing forcesthe forward-pushing motion of the blades and the centrifugal force of the apparatus.
It is obvious that my invention is notl limited to sugar-centrifugals, but is also applicable to separators for coloring-matters and for ores.
Having thus described my invention, I claim-` A centrifugal apparatus comprising suitable standards having bearings at their upper ends, a horizontal shaft journaled in said bearings, disks carried by said shaft near each end, a drum secured to the periphery of said disks of substantially frusto-conical form, partially closed at its inlet end and wholly open and dared outward at its discharge end, a helical iange secured to the interior of the drum, and a casing inclosing the drum of substantially cylindrical form open at the inlet end and formed into an annular trough, at its discharge end, with a dischargespout, substantially as described.
