MUSTACHE-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 662,120, dated November 20, 1900.
Application filed April 24:, 1900. Serial No. 14,115. (No model.)
To to whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, DELORMA B. HUBBARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albion, in the county of Orleans and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mustache-Guards; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in m ustache-guards, and especially to a device which maybe easily attached to an ordinary cup or tumbler and detached with equal ease; and it consists of two bands made of metal or other suitable material, one of which is adapted to engage the outer surface of the cup or tumbler adjacent to its free edge, while the other band is provided with the mustache guard or plate, the inner adjacent faces of said two bands being threaded and designed to screw together to securely hold the device in place, while cement may be interposed between the bands and the surface of the cup or tumbler, if desired, in order to make the joint water-tight.
My invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the device shown as attached to a tumbler. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view through a tumbler and the attachment. Fig. 3 is a view of the two parts of the guard disassembled.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the outer of the two bands of the device, said band having its opposite faces tapering, as shown, and about the upper portion of the inner face of the band are formed threads A. This band in adjusting same to the tumbler or cup is designed to be placed over the lower end of the tumbler and raised up until the inner tapering surface of the tumbler will contact with V the outer face of the tumbler near its upper end. When drawn up to its uppermost limit, the upper edge of the band should project above the upper edge of the tumbler or cup a short distance. The second band B has a shouldered portion B and a bead (J, and secured to its inner face is a mustache-guard plate D, between which and the inner wall of said band B is left a suitable aperture through which the contents of the tumbler may pass. About the outer circumference of the band B, preferably near its lower edge, are threads E, which are designed to engage with the threads on the inner face of the band A, and as the two bands are screwed together the outer band will be drawn up tightly against the outer face of the tumbler and held tightly against same. If preferred, cement may be placed between the two bands and adjacent to the upper edge of the tumbler in order to make the joint watertight.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A mustache-guard for tumblers, cups, &c., consisting of two bands, one of which is adapted to engage the outer circumference of a tumbler or cup and provided with screwthreads, a second hand provided with a mustache-guard and having threads engaging the threads of said hand held against the outer circumference of the cup, as set forth.
2. A mustache-guard for tumblers, cups, 850., consisting of two tapering bands, one of which has interior screw-threads, the second having exterior threads, and shouldered on its outer face, and provided with a mustacheguard plate, said bands designed to be screwed together, and the inner tapering face of the interiorly-threaded band to be drawn against the outer face of the tumbler, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
