CHIMNEY 0B VENTILATOR.
digs 5:11am mm in in time Titrttn's 33mm nut mating part at ilge same TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. MILLER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Ventilator; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the some, reference bein'g had to the accompanying drawings; forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of this invention, the linernx, fig. 2, indicating the plane of section.
Figure 2 is a horizontal section of the same, taken in the plane indicated by the line 3 3 fig. 1.
Similar lettcrsoi' reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to a ventilator which is intended for chimneys of any desired description, and for ventilating purposes in general, and which is composed of two or more annular inclined planes encircling the top-of the pipe through which the smoke' rises, in combination with vertical radiating partitions, in such a manner that segmental air spaces are formed, which enlarge towards their circumference, and, catching the wind, cause the same to pass with increased force over the top of the smoke pipe, thereby increasing the draught, and'assisting materially the escape of the smoke, independent of the weather or the state of the atmosphere.
A represents the smoke pipe, which is secured in the upper end of the smoke stack or chimney to which my ventilator is'to lie applied. To the top edge of this smoke pipe are secured two or more annular inclinedv planes B C, made in the form of truncated cones, like lamp-shades, but with ditferent inclinations, so that the space between themincreases towards the circumference. This space is divided in a number of compartments by a series of vertical radiating partitions, D, and the whole is covered up by the top plate E. The segmental spaces formed between the inclined planes and radiating partitions enlarge towards theircircumference, and, as the wind strikes thesame, it is caught and caused to pass with increased force over the mouth of the smoke pipe, and thereby the escape of the smoke from said .pipe is facilitated, and the draught is-incrensed, from whatever quarter the wind may blow, and particularly if the wind comes from above.
- Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure. by Letters Patent The smoke stack A, provided with annular inclined planes B C, having different inclinations, leaving a space divided into compartments hy the radiating partitions D, constructed and operating as and for the purpose specified.
