SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 628,162, dated July 4, 1899. Application ledAngust 23, 1898. 4 Serial No. 689,309. (No model.)-
A,To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs EMILE CELEsTIN LELU, a citizen of France, residing at Paris,
France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bidets, of which the following is a specification. l
My invention is designedto furnish an irnproved form of bidets; and it includes a receptacle fitted to a frame in the shape of a seat and adapted to be covered when not in use and a back adapted to serve as a reservoir for the water to be used.
The invention includes, further, certain improved details of construction, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth and particularly claimed. 1
In the drawings, Figure lisa sectional view through the device and through the operating parts. Fig. 2 is a plan with the cover removed and with the back omitted. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a modification.
In Fig. l the support is provided with legs and a frame, and within this frame is located a receptacle A, adapted to holdthe water for bathing purposes, and this receptacle is fitted to a frame B,supported upon springs C,which thus allow a certainamount of yielding to the receptacle, for a purpose hereinafter to be described. A cover X conceals the receptacle A when it is not in use and enables the device to be used as a seat. This cover is removable and may be displaced Whenever desired. A back is provided to add to the comfort of the user when occupied as a seat, and I utilize this back by placing within it a reservoir U, adapted to contain the water for use in the bath. The tank K is provided to receive the waste from the receptacle A, and this is located beneath the seat and is in connection with the receptacle Aby an overflow O and a tiexible tube N. The receptacle A has a depression Q covered by a plate V, having in-v clined perforations R, and the water passes into this depression through the pipe M from the tension of the springs C keeps the valveseat pressed tightly against the valve and prevents the flow of water; but when the bath is being used the weight of the person depresses the receptacle A against the springs O, thus opening the valve and allowing the water to flow into the receptacle, while the inclination of the series ot' perforations R will direct the flow to the front. The water will continue to rise in the chamber A until it reaches the overow O, by which it will pass to the tank K. After the bath has been used it is necessary to provide for the discharge of the'water below the level of the outlet O, and this is done through a valved outlet discharging into the tank K from. the depression Q. When the receptacle is depressed, the outlet is closed by the valve S 5 but when it rises the valveseat moves away from the valve, leaving an openin g, and the water fiows outinto the tank K through the tube L, around the valve-stem G, which is guided in the tube Il, and through the tube I into the tank.
In Fig. 3 I have shown a modification in which the water passes through the valveopening S2 and passage A2 and from thence through the passage O2 into the receptacle, and a valve F2, carried upon a stem G2 and having a float E2 at its upper end,is adapted to partially close the opening between the channels A2 and C2 when the water in the receptacle has lifted the tloat, and this serves to check the infiuence of the water and make it more gradual, the valve F2 being slitted or provided with channels, so as to allow the fiow. By this construction the water iows in very rapidly at tirst, and then its iiow is retarded. The float E2is contained in a chamber and this has communication with the receptacle through the passage D2.
Vhat I claim is- 1. A bidet comprising a suitable frame, a receptacle under spring tension, a water-supply, a valve controlling the same operated by the movement of the receptacle and a drainoutlet with a valve controlling the same also operated bythe movement of the receptacle, substantially as described.
2. A bidet comprising a frame, a recepta the frame B and the chamber A are not in use, l cle carried thereby and movable vertically,

same and the receptacle, a valve in said passage having channels to allow a limited quantiny of water to pass when the valve is closed l 5 on its seat and a floatJ connected with said valve for operating the same, substantially as described.
