Letters .Patent No. 61,281, dated January 15, 1867. I
IMPROVED BQAT-DETAGHING TAGKLE.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN v Be it known that I, JAMES R. TAYLOR, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Apparatus for Detaching Boats; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichv 4 Figure 1 represents a sectional side view of the apparatus; and
Figure 2 represents a perspective view ofA the same.
Similar letters of reference, where they occur in the separate figures, denote like parts of the apparatus in both. v
This invention relates to a peculiarly acting lever and pivoted hook, which in one position holds, and in its inverted or partially inverted position detaches itself from the ring in the boat, and goes with the ,davit-block.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and4 use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same with reference to the drawings. i
To a suitable part or portion of the boat a ring, a, is fastened, into 'which the hook on (the lower end of an upright lever, A, takes and holds; and, projecting below the hook, there is a foot-piece, c, that touches o1" nearly touches the deck, seat, or other part, B, of the boat; this foot being for the purpose of preventing the rising of the boat by the sea or waves from disconnecting the ring a from the hook `b. Above the hook b a short distance there is an eye or hole, d, in the lever A, into which the hook e of the davit-block C is hitched, and by which that end of the boat is suspended, the other end being similarly suspended by a similar contrivance. The lever A extends above the fnlcrum e, on which it swings, and its eXtreme upper end, f, may terminate in a hand-lever, by which it may be turned; or a line or rod, g, may be attached to it, extending to and connecting with the similar device at the opposite end of the boat, or to a' windl'a/ss, or'any other suitable device by which the two ends of the levers maybe drawn down, which throws the hooks Zw out of, the rings a, and disconnects the boat from the tackle.
Having thus fully described my disconnecting apparatus, what I claim is-I In connection with the hook in the davit-block, and the ring in the boat, the lever A, with its foot-piece c, the whole constructed, arranged, and operating in connection therewith substantially as describedt JAMES R. TAYLOR.
