Be it,known that I, WILLIAM A. GOOIDHER, of Burlington, New Jersey, have invented animproi Portable Ranges; and I do hereby declare the following to be a'full, clear, and exact description of reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of referencemarked thereon.

My in'vention'consists of the combination with the fire-place and ovens of a cooking range'of certa and pipes, the whole being constructed and arranged as fully describe h reni'tg that the undue l the outer casin g is prevented, while a continuous supply of heated air may be either thrown out into or directed to the chimney; the range being thus available for either winter or summer use.

In order to enableothers skilled in the art to make and use my invention, Iwill now proceed to de manner of carrying the same into efi'ect.

On reference to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification- Figure I is a sectional elevation of my improved cooking range.

A is the outer casing of the range, within which is a smaller casing, 13, and within the latter are i C C, and a fire-place, D, in which is the usual grate. To the drum, H, are connected two vertical pipes former extending through the top of the drum to the chimney, and the latter communicating througl ing,2', with the ash-pit; and in each pipe, G J", is a valve, j, the stem of which projects through of the casing I. A short pipe, 70, extends from the drum H through the front of the casing I, and i: at its outer end with a cap. At the back of the casing, A, is a sliding door, Z, and inthe front of t near the lower edge of the same, are openings, :0 x. The ordinary ranges are so constructed that the heat is either always thrown out into'th is wasted by being absorbed by the surrounding brick-work, the range in either case being availal during. part of. the year only; those ranges which throw out the heat being serviceable only in- WI! those in which the heat is absorbed by the' brick-work can be used only in summer. For this rec houses are provided with both winter and summer ranges. It will be seen that by the use of a range of this description the necessity of employing two difi'erent seasons of theyear is avoided. It will also be seenthat a range of this character is simple struction, may be made at a slight expense, and may be readily moved from place replace.
