Eni/silos.
- sPncmcArIoN forming part of Letters recent No. 606,366, dated June 2e, 1898. .Application mea Decanter zi, 1897. serial no. 662,803. (no man.)
To all' whom tmay concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE SoUrHARD, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specification. I
The .object of my said invention is to pro-` vide-a convenient, eicient, and inexpensive means of'repeatedly sealing the same envelop and it consists infthecombination, withf'an envelop having slits orperforations therefor near the open -side or end, of a separate sealer A lieving"endsadapted to pass through said per-y fox-ations and a ap portion adapted to fold over the vopen side or end, so that thefree edge of said flap and said ends may be united, as will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed. 1
Referring to the accompanying drawings,l
' perspective views illustrative of the application and use of my invention., In someof these figures the thicknesses of. paper forming the various parts are slghtl-j)I separated for purposes of clearness. Y
4The' envelopV 'A shown 'in 'they drawings is an ordinary open-end envelop, and this is the form which I prefer in applying my invention. Near one end it has the two slits 1 and 2 to receive the ends of the sealer. As this sealer takes up some portion of the length of the envelop, the bQdy of said envelop is preferably somewhat .longer than usual, so that .the inner space may beleftsubstantially the same as is common.-
The sealer, as shownfinFig. 3, consists of ,a body B, adapted to fold over the ends of ing out from the end thereof and adapted to pass through the slitsl and 2. One-hall;` the the end. of the envelop A like a Hap and come around into contact with the ends 3, which have been passed through the slits. The contact-surfaces beng'properly gummed, as at 4, they may be sealed together, as'will 'be readily understood.
My invention is especially applicable to railway and largeL corporation business where are .constantly passing between oicers and agents or other employees. In the. envelop on as illustrating this use the address agent on his line .uses one 'of the cheap sealers and Writes thereon the name of the station to which the matter is to go, as Indianapolis. The agent upon receiving it opens envelop intact for further and future use. As will be readily seen, the use of this encan be repeated almost indenitely.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I caim as new, and desire to secure byj Letters Patent, isf Q The combination, with' an envelop havin suitable slits therethrough, 19E I a sealer adapted to fold over the open edge of the envelop and provided with ends which are adapted to pass through said slits, the ends and one side of the sealer being adaptedzto be secured. to-
gether, substantially as strewnand, described. In witness whereof 'I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at indianapolis, indiana, this 13th, day of Iiecembergzh. 3351897.11.
