WILLIAM G. I-IENIS AND FRANK JAMISON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYL- VANIA; SAID JAMISON ASSIGNOR TO SAID I-IENIS.
BAKlNG-PAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 598,512, dated February 8, 1898.
Application filed June 12, 1897. Serial No. 640,579- (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM G. HENIs and FRANK JAMIsoN, citizens of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baking-Pans; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description o f the invention, such as will enable 4others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked Y thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to a baking-pan; and it consists in a construction thereof at once cheap, stron g, and durable, as hereinafter specified. i
Baking-pans of the class under consideration are iiat, of sheet-metal bodies, and with a stiff rim, and are used in mechanical bakeries.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of our pan. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the corner-piece before it is put on the other part of the pan. Fig. 3 is a section on line 1 l in Fig. l.
A is the sheet-metal body of the pan.
B B are the rods forming the edges of the pan, around which the sheet A is rolled. 1
Gis the corner-piece compressed overA and B and secured by rivet D. l
In the construction 'of our pan the sheet of metal forming thebody of the pan is rolled at the edges in the ordinary Way around the rods at the ends and sides, which rods abut at theirv ends, but are not fastened together, leaving the corners iexible, except as stiffened by the corner-pieces. The corner-pieces of malleable metal are slipped over the corners and closed firmly by compression, as by va hammer or a press, upon the rods and the sheet, making the corners rigid and practically integral, and are then preferablyriveted. This construction is cheap, the pan is as stiff at the corners as at any other part, or even more so, and the corners, which are the Weak points in such structures, are effectually protected against the Wear and contin- 5o gencies of service. .j
We claim as our invention- 1. In a baking-pan, in combination, a sheet ofmetal forming the body of the pan, a vrod at each side and at each end of the pan having the edges of the sheet rolled around them and abutting at their ends, and corner-pieces of malleable metal compressed around the junctions of said rods and the adjacent parts of said sheet and embracing and inclosing on 6o both sides the ends of the rods, a part of the edges of the sheets rolled around them and a portion of the flat body of the sheet.
2. In a baking-pan, in combination With the body and the rods forming the rim of the pan, a corner-piece of malleable metal coinpressed over the corner of said body and rim and embracing, and inclosing on both sides the ends 4of thel rods, the corner of the body and a portion of the iiat part of the body.
3. In a baking-pan, in combination, a sheet of metal forming the body of the pan, a rod Y at each side and at each end of the pan havi ing the edges of the sheet rolled around them and abutting at their ends, and corner-pieces of malleable metal compressed around the junctions of said rods and the adjacent parts of said sheet and embracing and inclosing on both sides the ends of the rods, a part of the edgesV of the sheet rolled around them and a portion of the fiat body of the sheet and riveted to said fiat body.
4. In a baking-pan, in combination With the body and the rods forming the rim of the pan a corner-piece of malleable metal compressed over the corner of said body and rim and embracing' and inclosing on both sides the ends of the rods, the corner of the body and a portion of the-iiat part of the body,` and riveted to said iiat body.
,In testimony whereof We affix our signatures in presence of two Witnesses.
` WILLIAM e. HENIs. FRANK JAivIIsoN.
