UNITED STATES P TENT OFFIon ALEXR. LINDSAY AND MYRON MOSES, OF MALONE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT lN HOOK-PINS FOR FASTENING WEARING-APPAREL.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,040, dated October 23, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, A. LINDSAY and MY- RON MOSES, of Malone, in the county of Franklin and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pins for Fastening Buttons, Shawls, 8m; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 shows a side view of our improved shawl-pin. Fig. 2 is a modification of the same for fastening studs, &c.; and Fig. 3 is a second modification thereof, for fastening cameos, breastpins, &c.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to a new and improved mode of attaching studs, breastpins, &c., to clothing, so that they are less liable than heretofore to become accidentally d6 tached and lost, and also to an improved device for releasing or detaching the same, as hereinafter explained.
A,Fig. 1, is the body of the pin, which is pointed at its upper end, and has its lower end turned up, as shown by the part a, and
carried up near the middle of the pin, where cured in its position. For releasing the hook I), when the pin is to be removed, the ball D is pushed up into position shown by red line- Fig. 2 is a modification in which the releasing-ball is dispensed with, and in which the hook' b is held disengaged with the fingers when removing the pin.
'The stud O is secured to the clothing by passing the pin A through its eye 0, as shown.
Fig. 3 is a modification in which the button or breastpin is fixed on the part a of the pin, and which, in other respects, is similar to Fig. 2.
By these means we produce a pin which is readily inserted or detached, and which secures the pin in a reliable manner.
Having thus described our invention, What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A pin, A, of spring metal, havinga part, a, turned back to, the body A, and terminat ing in a hook, 1), arranged and operating as and for the purpose specified.
2. The pin A a b, Fig. 1, and releasing slide or ball D, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
The above specification of our invention signed by us this 19th and 23d days of May,
respectively.
A. LINDSAY. MYRON MOSES.
