Description

(No Model.)
' N. BARTELLE.
TABLE.
Patented Aug. 3; 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NICHOLAS BARTELLE, OF NORTH BALTIMORE, OHIO.
TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 587,518, dated August 3, 1897.
Application filed November 21, 1896. Serial No. 612,956. (No model.) I v To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS BARTELLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Baltimore, in the county of Wood and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables; andI do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accoinpanyin g drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in tables, and has particular reference to that class known as folding or collapsible tables orstands; and it has for its object the provision of a folding or collapsible table that is easily and quickly put in position for use and, when it is desired, folded, removed, and placed at any convenient point out of the way.
The invention consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table in position for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the table folded; and Fig. 3 is a central cross-section of Fig. 2, showing the arrangement and manner of fastening the different parts of the table together.
Similar letters indicate like parts.
Referring to the drawings by letters, A A AA indicate the legs or supports of the table, and B B are the rails of the table, to which the legs or supports are rigidly secured, as shown, the said legs or supports being braced by the cross-braces C O, secured to the rails B B, and the legs or supports A A, on the same side of the table, as shown in the drawlugs.
D indicates the top of the table, constructed in two parts I) D, as shown, each part D having secured at each end thereof a rail B, the rails B B on the adjacent ends of said parts D D being so hinged that said parts DD of the top of the table will fall together and make a continuous surface when the table is set up for use, as shown in Fig. 1.
D D are the hinges that join the adjacent ends of the rails B B, the outer ends of the said rails B B being pivoted to the'rails B B or to the supports A A at b b, as is evident.
A A are grooves in the legs or supports A for the purpose of receiving and holding the ends of the braces O and C, as shown in Fig. 1.
O O are braces having their lower ends pivoted to the legs A A in the grooves A at a point a and their upper ends crossed and secured to the rails B Bon the same end of the table by pivots c, as shown in Fig. 3.
It is apparent that the legs or supports A of the table may be secured in any suitable manner or by any of the well-known means.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A table of the character described consisting of the legs or supports A, A, rigidly secured to the rail B, the hinged rails B, B, having the two-part top secured thereto and pivoted to said legs and rails B, B and the cross-braces C, C, pivoted at their lower ends to the legs or supports and having their upper ends pivoted to the opposite hinged rails B, B, all constructed and arranged as set forth.
2. A table of the character described consisting of the legs A, A, rigidly secured to the rail B and having a groove A therein, the hinged rails B, B, having the two-part top secured thereto and pivoted to said legs or supports, and the cross-braces O, O, pivoted at their lower ends to the legs or supports and having their upper ends pivoted to the opposite hinged rails B, B, all constructed and arranged as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NICHOLAS BARTELLE.
