UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NICHOLAS T. LEVERITT, OF EMBERSON, TEXAS.
CLOTH-BO LT CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 579,800, dated March 30, 1897. Application filed December 14, 1896. Serial No. 615,637. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS T. LEVERITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Emberson, in the countyof Lamar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cloth-Bolt Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to a novel construction in a clamp, and is designed more especially to be used for holding the folds of cloth in a bolt.
The invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of said clamp in detail. Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing the clamp in position on a bolt of cloth.
This invention is designed especially to hold the folds of a bolt of cloth in position and to prevent the same from being unwound except when desired. Shopkeepers are put to trouble and annoyance by the cloth being unwound from bolts unnecessarily by buyers when the cloth is lying on the counter. To
prevent this I provide a clamp that can be readily applied or removed from a bolt of cloth, and which when applied effectually holds the cloth in position. In said drawings the clamp is shown as consisting of two hooks 1, connected by means of an elastic strap 2. The said elastic strap 2 is fastened at its ends to the shanks 3 of the hooks 1, while the said hooks are provided with the bent ends 4, having lateral extensions 5.
The manner in which the clamp is applied is shown in Fig. 2, and it is obvious that the folds are firmlyheld in position, while at the same time the hooks can be drawn from the ends of the bolt by reason of the elastic connection between the folds.
It is understood that the hooks can be made of any convenient material, such as, for instance, wire bent into the required shape, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A clamp consisting of an elastic strap provided at its ends with hooks, each of said hooks consisting of the shanks and bent portion 4, and lateral extensions 5 upon said bent end portion. I
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
NICHOLAS T. LEVERITT.
