IMPROVED BROOIVI-CLASP.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,394, dated June 5, 1866.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HOWARD TILDEN, of Boston, Sufi'olk county, State of Massachusetts, have invented a new, useful, and Improved Brooin Strap or Clasp; and I do hereby declare the following,` description and aeeompanying drawings are suflcient to enable any person skilled in the art or science t0 which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvements without further invention or experiment.
The nature of my invention and improvements consists in making a broom strap or clasp by connecting` two loops by two spiral springs, so as to hold the straw or splints of the broom together.
In the accompanying drawing my improved broom-strap or clasp is represented. It consists oftwo loops, AA, made of' wire or metal plate, in the form shown, and connected by two springs, B B, made ot' wire, india-rubber, or otherv elastic substance, which will draw the loops together with sufficient force to hold the straw or splints of the broom together while it is used to sweep with and make the broom sweep better' and last much longer than it would without a strap or clasp; and when one broom is worn out itecan be applied to another with -the greatest facility by pulling the loops apart
