Description

(No Model.)
JEWETT. EGG HOLDER.
No. 508,021, Patented Nov. 7, 1893.
131/2112 gar UNITED I STATES PATENT FFIQE.
FRANKLIN NELSON'JEWETT, FREDONIA, NEW YORK.
EGG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 508,021, dated November '7, 1893.
Application filed July 2,1891. Serial No. 398,228. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN NELsoN J EWETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fredonia,in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Egg-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The special object of my invention is the holding of eggs while opening them, and removing the contents, and more particularly when they are of too high a temperature to be held comfortably in the fingers.
My invention consists essentially of an elastic, cup-shaped, vacuum egg-holder, having an annular portion between the rim and base made rigid. These holders are designed to be frequently used in pairs, one over each end of the egg. L
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, showing rings 9" and r. Fig. 3 is a vertical'section of another form of the improvement, containing only one ring, this one being embedded in the sides of the holder. Fig. 4 shows two of the holders in position over an egg to be opened, one of the holders being shown in longitudinal section.
In operation the lower portions of two holders are compressed by the fingers and one of p the holders is pushed over each end of the egg until the open end portion fits closely upon the shell. The compression is .now discontinued, and the elasticity of the holders brings su'fficient atmospheric pressure to bear to hold the egg securely during the process of opening it, and also to hold the separated parts of the shell during the removal of the contents. The parts of the shell are released by a slight compression of the holders.
The holders can be less advantageously used without intentionally compressing them if they are pushed snugly over the egg, preferably both at the same time. The rigidity of the annular portion or ring serves the purpose of preserving the shape of the rim of the holder during the compression of the lower portion. If only one holder be employed the method of its use is essentially the same.
What I claim, and desire to have secured by Letters Patent, is-
An elastic, cup-shaped, vacuum egg-holder having a rigid annular portion between the base and rim, substantially as set forth.
