Description

(No Model.) I
A. L. KLANK.
DEVICE FOR HOLDING OPEN GRAIN AND OTHER SACKS FOR FILLING THE SAME.
No. 481,957. Patented Sept. 6, 1892.
70561160666. fzzvezzior flaw/m NITED STATES PATENT ALBERT L. KLANK, OF OHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS.-
DEVICE FOR HOLDING OPEN GRAIN AND OTHER SACKS FOR FILLING SAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 481,957, dated September 6, 1892.
Application filed February 17,1892. Serial N0. 421,361. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT L. KLANK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Champaign, in the county of Ohatnpaign and State of Illinois, have invented a Oontrivance for Holding Open Grain and other Cloth Sacks Preparatory to Filling Same, and of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a contrivance for holding open and facilitatingthe filling of sacks, which object I attain by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the device in operative position in a bag, the latter being broken away.
As herein shown, the bag-holder is composed of two pieces of wire, one of which is bent at its central portion to form a loop d, the ends being thereafter bent to form the spring-coils at b b, the ends being extended in opposite directions and provided at their extremities with holders or catches at a a. The wire 0 extends from just above one spring I) to a like position above the other spring, the ends of said wire 0 being bent around the first wire and turned outwardly, as at e c, to also form holders or catches, said wire keeping the spring I) b from spreading when the holder is in use.
In operation the catches e e are placed inside the mouth of the bag, engaging the same preferably just below the hem, and the arms I) a b a are brought forward against the action of the springs and sprung into the mouth of the bag, the catches a a engaging the material thereof under the hem and keeping the edges of the mouth Well separated.
Fig. 3 shows the holder applied to the mouth of the bag, as above described. The holder and its bag can be hung up by the loop cl, if desired, while the bag is being filled, its bottom resting on the floor. When filled, it is only necessary to remove the catches a a fro m engagement with the bag and the holder can be readily removed therefrom.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. A wire bag'holder consisting of a continuous wire a b b a, having spring-arms, and the wire 0, having catches e e, as and for the purpose specified.
2. A wire bag-holder consisting of a continuous wire CL 1) b a, having spring-arms provided with catches a. a at their extremities, coiled portions 1) b, and a suspending-loop d, and a connecting wire 0, having catches e 6 adjacent to said coiled portions b b, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. A bag-holder having springs b 1), arms extended in opposite directions from said springs and having catches a a at their extremities, a connecting-piece c to maintain the springs in proper position, and catches e e, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
ALBERT L. KLANK. Witnesses:
J. B. HARRIS, H. S. CAPRON.
