J tra raras SOUNDING TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 449,146,6.ated March 3l, 1891.
Application tiled March Z 9, 1 8 9 0.
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID lV. WIATROUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Hampton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented a'new and useful Toy, of which the following is a specification.
y improvement relates to sounding toys.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my toy. Fig. 2 is a View showing a section ot' the same. Fig. 3 is a view of a modification. Figs. 4 and 5 are views of another modification.
The object of my invention is to produce a toy attractive to children and yet of cheap and durable construction.
The toy shown in Figs. l, 2, and 3 consists ot the two bells A A, mounted on each side of the wheel E, the wheel having a broad tire, so that the bells are really within the wheel. The bells are held apart and at a certain distance from the wheels by the tubing -3 B, and all the parts are held together by the tube or rivet C, which passes through them'and is upset at its ends. A jinglet is in each bell. A draft-bar is fastened to the toy by bending the ends and inserting them in the ends of the tube which rivets the parts together. The wheel is made of a single piece ot sheet metal, which is cut with a die so as to form teeth, which are then bent alternately to eachv side, forming a broad tire for the wheel, or can be made of two pieces, as in Fig. 3, which are struck out and bent so as to make the tire when fastened together as shown. The bells ring as the toy is revolved by rolling or otherwise. Figs. et and 5 show a toy similarly constructed, except for the absence of the supporting-wheel.
Serial No. 345,865. (No model.)
The two bells A A are held apart. by the 4o tubing B, and held together by the tube or rivet O,Which passes through the bells and tubing and is uptnrned or clinched at each end. Jinglets are put inside the bells.
The toy may be used as a ball or as a rattle, with a string passed through the tube C.
Ilaving thus described my invention, I claiml. The combination of two bells placed mouth to mouth, tubing holding them apart, and a hollow rivet passing through Vboth bells and tubing, upset at each end so as to hold the Y parts together.
2. The combination of a wheel having a recess on each side, and two bells, the bells being within the recesses of the wheel and the Wheel passing between the bells, substantially as described.
3. The combination of a wheel, two bells, one on each side thereof, tubing holding the bells at certain distances from the wheel, and a rivet holding all the parts together, substantially as described.
4. The combination ot the wheel E,the bells A A, the tubing B B, holding the bells at a certain distance from the wheels, the rivet C, and the draft-bar, substantially as described.
5. In a toy, the wheel E, having atire made by bending projections on its periphery so that they are parallel to the axis ot' the wheel, substantially as described.
Signed this 27th day of March, 1890.
DAVID lV. IVATROUS.
